Cosmopolitan magazine has reportedly “distanced itself” from Sonia Kruger in its annual Woman of the Year awards, following her recent comments calling for a ban on Muslim immigration.

Fairfax quotes editor Claire Askew confirming, “We went to press before she made those comments. She, 100 per cent, does not reflect the opinions of us or our readers but the comments were made afterwards.”

The Today Extra host is one of 5 nominees in the TV Presenter category, joining Sam Armytage, Carrie Bickmore, Sylvia Jeffreys, and Erin Molan.

According to Askew, Kruger was included because she is one of TV’s big TV presenters in Australia (would you feel robbed if you were Lisa Wilkinson or Tracey Grimshaw?).

“In the end I left it up to our readers to decide that and I trust them to choose the best woman who they think deserves the award,” she adds.

The Cosmo site notes: The political, professional and personal views of nominees are in no way a reflection of Cosmopolitan Australia’s views.
