“Do you reckon there will be a lot of nutcases coming out of the woodwork?”
How will Million Dollar Cold Case attract genuine leads and not just people after a reward?

“If you’re putting up a million dollars on the line to help solve a murder from a few years ago, do you recon there will be a few nutcases come out of the woodwork and say they know what happened?”
That was the question Hamish McLachlan, hosting a chat at Seven’s “Newfronts” in Melbourne, put to Seven Melbourne general manager Lewis Martin after the network announced Million Dollar Cold Case.
“I’m genuinely worried,” McLachlan continued. “A lot of people I know may be accused of something they didn’t do?”
“Sorry Hame, I can’t help you there! All I know is our production crew with Brad Lyons have come up with novel ideas every year, such as First Dates,” Martin replied.
“It will no doubt create a lot of conversation and no doubt be distributed through a whole range of devices we’ve talked about tonight. So that will be an interesting one. Let’s hope it gets up.”

The more I think about it, the more the whole thing sounds like the TV executive equivalent of “Hey, hold my beer and watch this!”…

Yes, I’m sure that was said with all the spontaneity and sincerity of a scripted infomercial.
Hate to contradict you, but most of McLachlan’s questions at the event struck me as pretty random, including those to his brother Gillon. Judging by the answer given I think the managing director was equally surprised. That’s why I thought it was a good moment to share.
Oh well I stand corrected. Just getting too cynical in my old age.
Hmmm… I don’t know that talking up their “novel ideas” and shilling another of their shows was the best way to answer that question…
