What truce? Seven rejects Today’s claim on South East Qld.

They agreed not to make claims about national ratings, but that hasn't stopped Today's claim on individual markets.

A settlement between Nine and Seven doesn’t appear to have lasted very long with Today claiming it has won the year as “Brisbane’s favourite breakfast program.”

While the averted case on Friday was to have crossed swords over the definition of “Australia” being based on national not metro ratings, that hasn’t stopped Nine from boasting about individual markets.

Yesterday a Nine release claimed Today has won 21 weeks of 40 ratings weeks in Brisbane (which also includes the Gold Coast, Coolangatta and as far west as Esk, Kilcoy and Boonah).

Nine’s Director of News and Current Affairs, Darren Wick said, “We love Queensland and we’re humbled that more and more Queenslanders are choosing Today as their Number One breakfast show. Today’s connection with the city, the Coast and the entire state is unique and special. As well as Karl Stefanovic and Sylvia Jeffreys, we have a terrific production team, filled with Queenslanders. It’s their home and that’s why Today will always work hard to bring our viewers the news that matters every morning and help them start the day with a smile.

“At Today, we appreciate and respect the support of our audience. I strongly urge every Sunrise viewer to give us a try. No obligation – you might just love us.”

But Seven is having none of it, sticking with Sunrise‘s annual average in the same market of 74,120 viewers over Today‘s 73,172.

Sunrise is currently ahead in Brisbane on daily averages for the year and miles ahead of the others across Queensland,” said Seven’s Director of News & Current Affairs Craig McPherson.
“Nine raised the white flag when challenged on its ridiculous claims they were Australia’s number one, embarrassingly pulling all their promos off air having to admit Sunrise is Australia’s number one breakfast show.
“Now they’re off beating their drum once again. Thankfully, their drums are rapidly reducing. We’ll leave them to boast as they like. It’s becoming a yawn for the viewing public and I’m sure your readers.”

  1. Doesn’t this go back to the same thing as Nine just had to settle
    Out of court for.

“Queensland” is not the same as “SE Queensland”

The same as “Australia” is not the same as “5 metro markets”

I suspect with the strength of 7 QLD stations that sunrise is the clear #1 in Queensland. Today can lay claim to “South East queenslands #1”

    1. The truly sad thing is the court even having to consider it in the first place, rather then just telling them to f… off and stop acting like children…
