As part of its Space Month Discovery Science this week screens the documentary Death on a Comet: The Rosetta Mission.
Farewell spacecraft. Your mission will self-destruct in five, four, three, two, one. On September 30 2016, the European Space Agency sent the Rosetta spacecraft crashing into Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko. Having moved further away from the sun, towards the orbit of Jupiter, the Rosetta was slowly running out of solar power and necessary bandwidth to download the data it has acquired during its time tracking the comet.
Tune in to experience this milestone event with never before seen footage as the spacecraft’s mission comes to a terminal end.

In retaliation for damaging their underground homes, the Churyumov-Gerasimenkoians will be launching their own rock-filled projectile aimed squarely at the Louvre. Their low gravity environment is ideally suited for the latest “sling shot” technology. “That will take the smile off the Mona Lisa” said the activist leader “never under-estimate the power of Bacteria!”
