“Diva Iggy?” Or a just a better media angle?

I wish I had a dollar for every time I have seen a struggling talent show try to ramp up the drama with "feuding judges."

I wish I had a dollar for every time I have seen a struggling talent show try to ramp up the drama with feuding judges.

Host Jason Dundas has been doing his best on Monday nights to push a wedge between judges (who is writing his scrpt?), especially Mel B and Iggy Azalea . Newsflash: they’re women, they must despise each other….

Today Sunrise pushed Adam Lambert to say Iggy Azalea is a “diva.”

“To totally be honest with you, I have no personal issue with Iggy,” he said.

“She and I have found some sort of common ground, but she is quite a diva. She shows up late, you never know what you’re going to get with her, it’s never boring.”

Noting her lack of punctuality he added, “There were a couple of times where I was like, ‘girl, where the hell are you?’”

He made similar comments to Kyle & Jackie O this morning, which is a bit of shame given he has 2 of the 3 most talented singers in the show.

That said, nor am I empathising with Azalea. Big name stars know their role in the whole publicity machine even if it means overplaying the drama for headlines and chatter (just as this very post is doing). They are paid handsomely to be the headline or to manufacture it. Sunrise also knows how to create moments for the network as a whole.

“Diva Iggy” is a much better headline than “Show is Ripe for the Bin.”

Meanwhile there are some young kids just hoping to get a break….

  1. I am getting sick of the shoe being all about the judges. Bring back an Idol style show where it is all about the contestants & over the course of 3 months we get to know the contestants & the eventual winner has had enough exposure of ensure they have a career.

  2. I guess it backfired when they tired to promote the Izzy/Mel feud. But Mel went on Sunrise and only had good things to say about her. It’s a shame they do this and always say it’s the female.

  3. In defence of all of them, Adam does have a penchant for drama and uses ‘diva’ and ‘girl’ a lot i’ve noticed. I’m not sure what to make of Iggy. Not being at all acquainted with her music (i’m decades too old methinks), I liked her a lot in the early rounds but she does seem uncomfortable with the live shows and the role she clearly signed on for. I think Adam is brilliant; he brings experience not only as a top vocalist, but as a survivor of Idol and a player in the music world right now. Guy adds a lot too. It just hasn’t worked this season. The abridged timeline, evicting 4 in one night. Mel B needs a really strong rival on the panel and she hasn’t got it. I’ll keep watching. I’m loyal.
