Screen NSW tackles Diversity Action

Tim Ferguson, Jordan Raskopoulos, Maya Newell, Rhoda Roberts & Debbie Lee appointed to a panel to enhance diversity in NSW screen projects.

Tim Ferguson, Jordan Raskopoulos, Maya Newell, Rhoda Roberts and Debbie Lee have been appointed to a panel by Screen NSW to enhance diversity in NSW screen projects.

They join with other screen and arts industry practitioners on the Diversity Action Plan, designed to expand policy commitments around gender and disability, and develop programs to boost screen industry participation by under-represented groups.

The full panel comprises:

• Candy Bowers – performer, actor, artistic director of the Black Honey company and advocate for women from CALD backgrounds on stage and screen

• David Capra – artist, Head of the Western Sydney Art Alliance and co-director of the Motion Picture Film Festival in Fairfield

• Cate McQuillen – Producer of Dirt Girl World, based in the Northern Rivers

• Tim Ferguson – Comedian, director, author, teacher, member of the Doug Anthony All Stars

• Dr Daniel Mudie Cunningham – artist and senior curator at Artbank

• Debbie Lee – Head of Scripted Production at Matchbox

• Emma Price – Performance artist and co-owner of Sydney art bar The Bearded Tit

• Rhoda Roberts – Head of Indigenous Programming at the Sydney Opera House, Member of the Bundjalung nation, Widjabul and Gidabul clans of Northern NSW and SE QLD

• Maya Newell – Director Gayby Baby, Kids

• Jordan Raskopoulos – comedian, writer, performer, actor, co-creator and frontwoman of Axis of Awesome

• Fadia Abboud – filmmaker, TV director and co-director of Sydney’s Arab Film Festival

“The effectiveness of the Screen NSW 50:50 Gender Target, and the positive impacts of our broader gender parity program, prove that if you change the rules you change the game,” said Courtney Gibson, CEO of Screen NSW.

Successful applicants in the Screenability NSW Internship Program, paid internships with leading production companies, broadcasters and streaming services, will be announced soon.
