Love Child and Home and Away will offer new training opportunities for emerging female directors, under a new initiative.

The Australian Directors’ Guild has announced Shadow Directing opportunities for up to six female directors to direct an episode of a show while being ‘shadowed’ by an experienced TV drama director.

“This is the first time a scheme of this type directly targeting female television directors has been developed,” said CEO of the ADG, Kingston Anderson.

“It will provide real job opportunities for experienced female directors to enter the television industry.”

Sally Caplan, Head of Production at Screen Australia said, “So soon after they received confirmation of funding, it is thrilling to see the Australian Directors’ Guild already putting their Gender Matters: Brilliant Careers funding to work, offering such incredible, high-profile opportunities to the next generation of Australian female directors. We congratulate ADG and all the partner production companies involved in shaping this program, and encourage those applying for the Shadow Directing roles to give it their all”.

Other production companies and shows will be announced next year.
