Bridal wars on Free to Air

Don't look now ....a flood of brides & grooms are coming to Nine & Seven next week.

It will be bridal bouquets at 10 paces next week when Free to Air Networks flood our screens with more weddings and in-laws than ever.

Nine, in particular, and Seven are headed down the aisle for a ratings war two weeks before survey officially begins on Sunday February 12th.

Nine is screening Married at First Sight across three nights next week, airing Monday – Wednesday, It is pinning its hopes that viewers will connect with its 20 singles, against the might of My Kitchen Rules and I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here!

Endemol Shine Australia have produced this season for the first time (previously a Nine internal production), adding more tweaks to the format to work as stripped content.

But Seven will also launch controversial series Bride and Prejudice next week, debuting at 9pm on Monday after its MKR launch.

The series sees couples contend with disapproving family members, unhappy with their partner choices over ethnicity, religion and sexuality. It is bound to ignite reaction.

Nine is also maintaining its nuptials theme next week with primetime movie replays Bride Wars, Monster in Law and My Big Fat Greek Wedding following MAFS.

That’s not counting TVs other wedding-themed shows on multi channels: The Bachelor (US), Millionaire Matchmaker, Age Gap Love, or Undressed on SBS.

Meanwhile ABC returns Julia Zemiro’s Home Delivery, The Weekly With Charlie Pickering and Stop Laughing This is Serious next week.

  1. MAFS = Arranged marriage, every move filmed, recipe for disaster. Real life marriage is difficult enough without having it played out in front of an audience. Bride and Prejudice = another way of ensuring a marriage is doomed to fail by filming it. I can’t understand why people do this, is it the promise of fame and fortune? I won’t be watching

  2. So it appears the bridal wars reality franchises will slightly overlap?

Will be interesting to see how Nine’s “Cancelled at First Sight” goes up against the Seven effort of “Snide and Credulous”….

  3. MAFS not interested, B&P look like trashy reality TV at its finest! The previews have already sparked discussions in my work place. With comments like ” It’s like my son died” just because he’s gay. I will tune in to see, if there really is aussies that feel this way in 2017! Sad
