Long wait for more Sherlock?
If there is more Sherlock in store, it could be a 2 year wait for Benedict Cumberbatch fans.

It could be another long wait for more Sherlock, according to showrunner and co-creator Steven Moffat.
The final episode of Season 4 was unveiled yesterday, in Australia on Stan.
Moffat recently told Radio Times: “Right at this moment, we really don’t know about the future. Mark [Gatiss] and I have to have a long chat, possibly on a train, about what we’d actually do with another run. We love the show very much, and that means we don’t want to let go of it before we have to. All of us involved know that days like these will never come again and we’re in no hurry to see them over.
“At the same time, because we love Sherlock the way we do, we don’t want to keep it going past its natural term.”
Series four was commissioned in October 2013 and announced in July 2014, but getting the in-demand cast all on set in late 2015 (as planned) proved impossible — filming didn’t actually start until April 2016.
“Everybody’s schedule is difficult. Benedict and Martin aren’t just two of the finest actors of their generation, they’re stars, in demand everywhere. Sherlock can only ever be a passion project. So give us a moment and Mark and I will go back to [Arthur Conan] Doyle and see what we’ve missed. The game may still be on,” he said.
“Pre-production work would need to begin in the spring and we are not at that stage but the will to do more is there,” a BBC source added.

Sherlock is a curiosity, to me it comes across as an esoteric creative writing project with multi layered complexities thrown in to give a sense of intellectual depth, which is kind of pretentious, but I suppose after years of Dr Who this kind of story telling comes naturally.
Did some research and answered my own question – DVD release of season 4 in England Jan 23 while Australian release is scheduled for Feb 15.
Hey, King K… do you have any knowledge where the season that just played out on Stan will be aired next?
Foxtel’s BBC, 9 Network or ABC?
Or will waiting for it on DVD be a better option?

ABC usually a year later.
I think last year’s special episode (Abominable Bride) was broadcast on Nine about August (so 7 months after Stan). Not sure if ABC has aired that yet.
Not sure what to make of the season 4 finale. Some parts were great and some were disappointing. I think I’ll rewatch it because there was a lot going on. Loved the last shot of Sherlock and John running side by side.
