  1. To me those ratings are almost irrelevant, seems like Nine are just clutching onto what they can. The BBL has become the AFL/NRL of summer with big crowds (even far bigger than average NRL crowds to be fair), great tv ratings and genuine rivalries between teams forming making the games exciting even to neautral viewers. The BBL ladder is of genuine interest to many, nothing gimmicky or superficial at all – we all want our team in the finals. Ten produce the games with a fresh approach, better on screen graphics and a new commentary team that aren’t from Nine. Ticks a lot of boxes and Nine must hate it.

  2. Well you would hope Test Cricket would be rating higher considering it is an international cricketing format and the rights cost considerably more than the big bash.
Having said that the Big Bash rates incredibly well for what it is.

  3. There are few things I noticed about cricket on 9 and TEN.

On 9, they say there are large numbers of viewers watching Test Cricket, yet the seats around at the grounds are often empty.

Many of the games on TEN have the “Full House” sign posted outside, and the ratings suggest large numbers watching.

Maybe the numbers watching are more for 9 than 10, but it seems the across the board (on-ground and broadcast) support for BBL in Australia is higher.

And of cause, a 9 representative recently said they wanted to be the cricket network, showing all forms of the game. So, they’ll want to bid for the BBL broadcast rights when it comes up.

  4. A bit contradictory. Over the weekend the Daily Telegraph published a story saying that Nine was going to pay a record amount to try and get the BBL away from TEN, yet here they are crowing that their telecast of the tests rated higher than the BBL. Why would they tell journalists one day that they wanted to show the BBL then two days later trash it in the media?
