Sam Armytage: Magazine gossip is “Mindless. Bullshit.”

Sunrise host labels magazine gossip as "Silly. Trash. Idiotic. Mindless. Bullshit."

“What? The Hewitts aren’t getting divorced for the 5-millionth time this week? Kate Middleton isn’t expecting her 12-thousandth baby?” Sam Armytage wrote on Instagram after spying a Woman’s Day magazine cover.

“So, it must be a @sunriseon7 feud to take up several pages during the quiet-January-period.
Silly. Trash. Idiotic. Mindless. Bullshit.”

The Sunrise host urged “sensible women of Australia” not to part with $4.99 for “this tripe.”

Woman’s Day is published by Bauer Media whose CEO Nick Chan is a former Chief Operating Officer at Seven West Media, and whose former assistant was Amber Harrison.

  1. The few times….years ago…I weakened and purchased one of these mags…most of the pics were pulled from the Net….
I personally feel the Magazine Wars…was the death knell for these publications…

  2. Well said Sam. Actually the other part of that story that hasn’t been mentioned is a tiny article saying how Kylie and Larry hate each other. Now come on what a load of rot. You can tell by there chemistry they do not hate each other. lao Larry and Kylie both seem nice people who wouldn’t hate anyone.

But Sam has been a target from these mags. It’s true thought without Bec Hewitt at the tennis they cant focus on them so they need another story. Not sure how many times these mags tell us Nicole and Keith are divorcing. Nicole is pregnant, Bec is pregnant or she and Lleyton are divorcing or Jen Aniston is pregnant.

  3. There was a recent issue of a magazine with Delta Goodrem on the cover saying that she is pregnant. You open the mag to the article and it makes no mention of her being pregnant just her discussing possible future motherhood which they used quotes from another magazine where the article occured!! So stupid.

    1. I was going to correct you on your spelling of ‘bait’ but, since what you’re referring to is a load of wank, I think all you need to do is put an apostrophe in front and it’ll be fine.

    1. “Sunrise”, “The Today Show”, “The Project”, even “ABC Breakfast” etc etc all indulge in gossip, I agree. But I think the difference here is they don’t have program meetings to make up ‘fake’ stories to foister upon us as the gospel truth. I don’t know how these magazine people can lie straight in bed at night.

  4. And people think “fake news” is a recent phenomenon. I find this sort of trash disgusting.

I don’t understand how they can get away with publishing obvious tripe and I don’t understand why some people are still buying it.

  5. How is that these magazines are still printing outright lies and attributing them to unknown sources. They cause enormous distress to people by making up lies – and profiting from them. Something really needs to be done to stop them.

  6. Completely agree with Samantha. I won’t have Woman’s Day, New Idea or any of the other trashy magazines in the house, and, guess what, my wife is of the same mind. These publications could be a power for good, but ruin it all with their fake, made-up “news”.
England has a lovely women’s magazine called “The People’s Friend”, excellent articles and no BS in sight. Australian publishers take note.

  7. Agree with Sam. If people stopped buying these garbage mags when they feature these crap stories on the cover, then they will stop writing, I’m sorry, I mean, making them up!

  8. What’s on the cover of these trashy mags bears no resemblance to what is written inside. I never buy them, only glance through them in doctors’ waiting rooms. Waste of time and money!
