Father wants ACA to cancel “shocking confessions” of daughter’s killer

Father of a 2005 murder victim says he is shocked to hear Nine giving airtime to a killer's confession letter.

For every true crime story there are always victims, including family and friends.

Now the father of a woman murdered in Dubbo in 2005 has lashed out at Channel Nine over a true crime segment in which the murder’s chilling 25 page confession will be read by a lookalike actor.

A promo by A Current Affair describes a 25 page letter written by Malcolm Naden as his “shocking confessions ….The multiple killings in his own words.”

But Mick Peet told News Corp Nine produced and promoted the story without his knowledge.

“I felt sick to the guts. It was disturbing and devastating seeing that. I’m very shocked,” he said.

“They’ve said it’s his confession and the only thing I can think about is the confession that I’ve read. What was in that confession was unbelievable. Something I’ve never seen in a horror movie or anything … It’s worse than Wolf Creek.

“Even what was just in that clip. My grandchildren are going to see this, Lateesha’s children, and that’s not fair,” he said.

A Nine spokesperson said: “We’ve produced this story with the involvement of family members of the victims and with the detectives from the NSW Homicide Squad who appear in the program throughout.”

Malcolm Naden was handed a life sentence for the 2005 murder of 15-year-old Dubbo girl Kristy Scholes and a further 21 years for murdering Lateesha Nolan that same year.

  1. This is sensationalist reporting at its absolute worst and the main reason why I haven’t watched A Current Affair in years. The promo puzzled me at first because they appeared to be hiding the man’s identity – and yet his identity was obvious. Now it makes sense that he’s an actor, so what possible reason is there for the poor lighting other than trying to sensationalise a sensitive issue? It’s an absolute disgrace.
