  1. It’s noticeable that most of the renewed shows listed are the formulaic type preferred for long season U.S. shows and obviously a perfect time slot filler for average American audiences. Thank goodness for HBO and other independent production companies producing original stories. Though I would be disappointed the demise of ‘Elementary’ has been anticipated.

    1. They almost all fit the bill as original stories, and network TV has for decades sought to find returning formats. That’s what we call a hit. New start-ups every 12 – 24 months is a very expensive exercise.

      1. I agree about the costliness of production and also acknowledge the 3 year development period for any new show, but I do like the mini series original concepts the best, like the first ‘True Detective’. Long running formulaic shows tend to become predictable after season 2, so unless they have grabbed a large fan base early on the ratings will be a ratings concern before season 4, but I guess having 4-5 seasons as a minimum is what the producers want for their investors.

  2. Glad to see some of my favourites have been renewed. Just watched the Code Black season finale so fingers crossed it gets renewed. At least it didn’t end with a cliffhanger if it isn’t.

  3. Elementary has done so well finding its own style for the Sherlock mythos, it would be a pity not to give them a chance to write a genuine final season. And maybe find a way to get Natalie Dormer back on set for a few more Moriarty appearances…

  4. The Amazing Race starts back next week, so not surprising it wasn’t announced yet. I’d be shocked if The Odd Couple got a renewal, because I don’t understand how it got to 3 seasons already! Seven will be hoping both the Criminal Minds get renewed soon. All up, some needed good news for TEN at least.

    1. That depends how you look at it. None of those shows rate particularly well. If they were cancelled, they may have been replaced with something better suited to TEN.

    2. The Odd Couple is still pulling decent (albeit unremarkable) numbers (the third season was averaging 4.5 – 5.5 million viewers in the States). It’s one of those under-the-radar shows that will run for several seasons without making a cultural impact or attracting any noteworthy critical praise, so unless ratings dip to around the 3 million range, I can see this running for another season or two (in the absence of another concept that CBS may consider more promising).
