The Night Manager in development for second season

Not officially renewed, but there are solid moves towards more of BBC's acclaimed spy drama.

A second series of award-winning drama The Night Manager is in development for the BBC.

Director Susanne Bier said a script was “slowly being developed” for afollow-up.

“We all very much want to do a season two, but the thing we absolutely do not want is to do something that does not live up to the level of season one,” she said.

“That would be a really bad idea.”

The series was based on John le Carre’s 1993 novel – but the book does not have a sequel.

Tom Hiddleston, Hugh Laurie and Olivia Colman starred in the UK thriller, which won Golden Globes and an Emmy Award.

Hiddleston has said he would consider making a second series.

It screened in Australia on BBC First and will get a Free to Air screening on SBS from March 22nd.

  1. Jon Le Carre is still active looking to revive his spy character George Smiley, so maybe if they ask him nicely with a suitable cheque in hand he will revive Jonathan Pyne as well. I would like to see a completely new story, even though I would miss Elizabeth Debicki. Hugh Laurie is not a good villain though obviously the critics don’t agree.

  2. i stopped watching cause i found out it was cancelled , so sick of watching a series then half way thru it you find out its cancelled so may have to keep a look out for the series again

  3. I really would have to think hard before i watched a series 2, the only standout in the show was olivia Colman. The whole british drama takes a hit when american money is involved, just give me a great story. I can live without the exotic locations and a whole episode devoted too blowing things up!

    1. I have to agree, never really did see why both Laurie and Hiddelston won when Coleman and Tom Holland were the standouts and I really don’t think there is a need for a second series.
