ABC3 wins International Emmy

Queensland-devised series utilising the drawings of Aussie kids is recognised in Cannes.

ABC3 animated series Doodles has won an award at the 5th International Emmy Kids Awards in Cannes.

The series by Queensland production company Ludo utilises the drawings of Australian children submitted online, which are then animated into a story.

Overnight it won the best Kids Digital category beating out other contenders from Japan, Canada and Brazil.

“Congratulations to Queensland production house Ludo on this well-deserved win, which is incredibly their second International Emmy,” said Screen Australia’s Head of Business and Audience Richard Harris. “We are so proud to have watched Ludo grow, from creating Doodles out of a social media experiment, utilising funds from our Multiplatform program, to being able to grow their business in 2015 utilising Enterprise funding. Ludo has proved that sometimes all a great idea in the hands of gifted creatives need is the funds to make it happen.”

Screen Queensland CEO Tracey Vieira said, “Screen Queensland has supported Doodles from its inception and it’s great to see the work of Brisbane-based Ludo Studio honoured through this prestigious international award, putting Queensland practitioners in the global spotlight,” she said.

Michael Carrington, Head of Children’s & Education at ABC said: “Ludo Studios has a growing reputation for delivering first-rate creative ideas like Doodles. ABC Children’s is proud to be their commissioning broadcast partner on the series and congratulates them on their winning success at the International Children’s Emmy’s.”

The UK dominated winners at the ceremony, with Australia’s only other nominee Ready For This beaten by an entry from the Netherlands.
