Hacker leaks Orange is the New Black, demands ransom.

First episode of new season leak is said to be the tip of the iceberg.

A hacker has uploaded the first episode of the new season of Orange is the New Black to a pirate website, and is threatening to release more unless Netflix pays an undisclosed amount of money.

Using the alias The Dark Overlord, the hacker apparently stole other TV shows in the breach.

“We are aware of the situation. A production vendor used by several major TV studios had its security compromised and the appropriate law enforcement authorities are involved,” Netflix said in a statement.

The F.B.I. is said to be investigating the matter.

It’s not clear what TDO plans to achieve by the leak but they issued a statement at PasteBin.

In a discussion with TorrentFreak a spokesperson said, “Are you familiar with the famous American bank robber, Willie Sutton?”

“In an interview, he was once asked ‘Why do you rob banks?’ To which replied, ‘Because that’s where the money is.’ It’s said that this exchange led to the creation of Sutton’s law which states that when diagnosing, one should consider the obvious. We’ll leave you to interpret what we’re motivated by.”

Orange Is the New Black is due for release on June 9.

  1. I remember the same thing happened to Game of Thrones. Although they only got the first episode of GoT. This guy got every episode of the new season.
