Seven settles case with ex-Weekend Sunrise news presenter

Seven settles on one of its current legal battles, with Talitha Cummins.

Seven has reached a confidential settlement with former Weekend Sunrise newsreader Talitha Cummins, who launched legal action claiming she was sacked unfairly while on maternity leave.

Her lawyer said a confidential settlement with Seven had been reached, adding that she would not be reinstated at the network.

Cummins claimed she was offered a temporary role reading the 5am weekday bulletin but said she was entitled to a return-to-work guarantee on Weekend Sunrise. The new position did not suit her family responsibilities as a young mother, and it involved more hours at the same rate of pay. Court documents claimed she was a permanent part-time worker and was not given reasonable notice of termination.

But Seven maintained she was a casual employee, that she had not taken parental leave and that she was not entitled to a return-to-work guarantee.

Cummins was seeking compensation her lost income, pay her damages for hurt and humiliation and pay penalties for breaching the Fair Work Act.

  1. Whilst it’s a sad scenario for a talented and lovely journo (I remember her at Seven as far back as 2007 or thereabouts).

But Seven have a point, she did seem to me missing more than not. That news presenting role on Weekend Sunrise appears very casual based. Angela Cox is in the role now I believe?
