TEN backs George Calombaris

TEN says it is "ridiculous and illogical" to link restaurant drama to cooking show drama.

TEN is standing by Masterchef judge George Calombaris in the wake of revelations that staff at venues were underpaid $2.6m.

“It is ridiculous and illogical to suggest that the issues at MAdE Establishment will affect the performance of the new season of MasterChef Australia,” a TEN spokesman abruptly told News Corp.

“George Calombaris and his team at MAdE are dealing with the incorrect payments made to employees to ensure every affected employee receives their full entitlements.

“George has the full support of Network TEN.”

But does that mean Calombaris will be doing interviews for the series?

Meanwhile one media report today even speculates the figure may top a whopping $4m when final costs are done.

“The Fair Work Ombudsman is currently working through the issues we first identified and raised with the business in 2015 to ensure compliance has been achieved,” a spokeswoman told Fairfax Media.

“As this remains an ongoing operational matter we cannot make further comment at this stage.”

Calombaris has apologised to staff and pledged to address salary shortfalls.

MasterChef is expected to return in coming weeks.

  1. I don’t watch Masterchef, but I do watch Madam Secretary on ten catch-up. Correction, I “did” watch, until I’ve had to endure endless adds with the three judges!
