Australia falls in Eurovision odds

Australia slips from #5 to #11 ranking according to the bookies.

Australia’s chances at Eurovision are slipping according to the bookies.

For weeks Australia has been ranked #6 but in the latest betting odds, we have fallen to #11 despite Isaiah being well-received at rehearsals in Kyiv.

According to the bookies Italy still tops the rankings, with Bulgaria hot on its heels. Aussie Anja Nissen is ranked higher than Isaiah, as she competes for Denmark.

1. Italy
2. Bulgaria
3. Portugal
4. Sweden
5. Armenia
6. Romania
7. Azerbaijan
8. Finland
9. France
10. Denmark
11. Australia

I haven’t seen this mentioned much anywhere, but we should also brace for the real possibility that Australia may not qualify for the Final too. There I said it.

The novelty of us participating is now over. There are some in Europe who, understandably, begrudge our inclusion. Don’t Come Easy is not as strong a song as Sound of Silence. Fingers crossed Isaiah’s “Sam Smith”-style vocals and commitment can get us to the Final.

All eyes on the First Semi Final 5am Wednesday morning AEST on SBS.

    1. Agree. It will qualify just because it’s Australia. But to be honest amongst all the songs that are in this years competition, I don’t mind Isaiahs song. I predict it will be top 10 in the final.

  1. Agree re: possibly not qualifying…. I hope we do though!
It’s a really hard semi final, not because there are lots of amazing songs but because there aren’t really any terrible ones…
I think Sweden, Portugal, Greece, Armenia, and Azerbaijan will safely qualify based on their songs, staging and past record. Australia then sits in a pack of 8-10 songs that realistically have a chance of getting one of the other 5 places.
With Italy being potentially a runaway winner, the semi finals seem to be where the drama is at! Really really tough/impossible to pick 10 qualifiers in both semis.
