Colbert tops US late night ratings

Late Show's stance against Trump sees an 11% lift in his ratings.

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert will win the battle of US late-night hosts for 2016-17 in total viewers according to Deadline,  climbing 11% over its previous season.

The CBS show leads by just 22,000 viewers at 3.195m to 3.173m for NBC’s The Tonight Show. That makes it CBS’ first win over NBC since the 1994-95 season, which has fallen 15%.

But Tonight Show‘s Jimmy Fallon takes the TV season in all key demo categories for the season.

Colbert’s lift is being attributed to his stance on President Trump, with the FCC this week ruling it will not take any action in response to complaints over his joke that “the only thing [Trump’s] mouth is good for is being Vladimir Putin’s c— holster.” Or should we say, gag….?

  1. Conan used to be on 9 9go a few years ago but was taken off then.as far as I know,he hasn’t been shown in Australia since.I agree.his show is great and I was disappointed to see it go

  2. Colbert’s show is nothing more than left wing liberal propaganda. He’s not even funny anymore even with his dumb audience laughing at anything he says.

  4. I enjoy watching The Late Show with Stephen Colbert overall. Yes, I do find that Colbert is overdoing his Trump jokes/bashing of late, but I find him a host quite good.

    On a side note – how are the U.S. late shows rating here in Australia? I know that the “Late-night-timeslots: here are quite minuscule, but am just curious. FTA I think only airs Colbert’s Show on Ten and James Corden’s show on Eleven.

  5. It’s embarrassing how bad Colbert show is. I gave it a shot when it started here but gave up on it pretty quickly. I had to watch a couple of episodes a few weeks back as I want to see his “musical” guest and I could barely get through it. Its funny how he rips on Trump so much, because if it wasn’t for Trump, he probably would of been cancelled or replaced because his show was struggling big time before.

  6. I regularly watch the late shows by pvr of course I’m a big fan of the late show recently and I don’t mind the zany work of James cordon on the late late show. Conan has always been my favourite tho.

  8. Was aassive fan of the Colbert Report, but cannot stand The Late Show. Not funny and it’s gotten way too preachy for me. Conan remains the standout late night show but unfortunately unsure of where it airs here now.

    Both Late Show and Late Late Show have fallen so far since Letterman and Ferguson. Kind of sad really, oh well

  9. finally people are starting to see how good colberts show is.i like it the most out of the 2 jimmys added.the monologues are simply brilliant.trump has done wonders for his show.i wish letterman retired years earlier.his show was terrible at the end.
