Eurovision 2017 Semi Final One: results

Isaiah qualifies for the Eurovision Final in Kyiv, Ukraine.

Australia has qualified for the Eurovision Final, with Isaiah’s Don’t Come Easy.

The ten countries to qualify from Semi Final One today in Kyiv, Ukraine are:

1. Moldova Sunstroke Project Hey Mamma
2. Azerbaijan Dihaj Skeletons
3. Greece Demy This is Love
4. Sweden Robin Bengtsson I Can’t Go On
5. Portugal Salvador Sobral Amar Pelos Dois
6. Poland Kasia Moś Flashlight
7. Armenia Artsvik Fly With Me
8. Australia Isaiah Don’t Come Easy
9. Cyprus Hovig Gravity
10. Belgium Blanche City Lights

Isaiah put in an earnest performance in Kyiv atop his rotating turntable before an enthusiastic crowd. But his top notes were not his best vocals, with nerves perhaps playing a part on the day. However he won over the crowd to secure a placing.

“Tonight I just wanted to deliver my best performance and really connect to the lyrics of my song and make Australia proud. Eurovision has been a dream come true for me, and I’m so happy I get to be on the stage again for the Grand Final. I am so thankful for all the support from fans over here and everyone back home,” he said.

SBS Managing Director Michael Ebeid said: “We are incredibly proud of how Isaiah has represented Australia, it is a huge achievement to advance through to the Grand Final of the world’s biggest singing competition. We know Australians will get behind Isaiah and tune into SBS this weekend to see him perform.”

Australian Head of Delegation Paul Clarke said: “Isaiah totally deserves this chance in the Grand Final. He has a huge talent and he has captured the hearts of many people here with his voice, his good looks and his gracious spirit.  We wish him well in the best field of artists in a few years, and we have a few days now to tweak our production and set our sights on the Top Ten of the competition.”

But missing out were:
Albania Lindita World
Czech Republic Martina Bárta My Turn
Iceland Svala Paper
Latvia Triana Park Line
Finland Norma John Blackbird
Georgia Tamara Gachechiladze Keep The Faith
Slovenia Omar Naber On My Way
Montenegro Slavko Kalezić Space

But the broadcast by SBS was also subject to technical problems.

  1. Since SBS plays adverts and wanted us to have the greenroom shout out to Isaiah we ended up out of sync with the official broadcast by about 30-40 seconds. I wonder if that could potentially cause an issue with counting votes? I found the delay rather irritating since the results were already being shared before they announced them on screen.

  2. Phew! That was close! I have a feeling we were 8th-10th tonight….

I’m glad Isaiah gets another chance to perform it the way we know he can. That note was painful and adding insult to injury it was in the section of the performance SBS asked to be replayed in the final voting recap….

The juries voted on a dress rehearsal (where I assume he didn’t make the same mistake) – guessing their votes carried us through

  3. Seems not too many people are happy with him making it to the semi-finals. His performance has almost a thousand dislikes on YouTube, compared to 500 likes.

I’m pretty surprised he made it.

      1. His vocals were on point at the jury final on the Monday night apparently. which I suspect may be what got him over the line.
He’s also apparently had some success in Scandinavia, and there were three scandi countries voting in this semi, which can’t have done any harm either : )
I’m not a fan of the song, but like him, I hope he smashes it on Saturday.
