George Calombaris charged after football stoush

MasterChef judge is now facing a common assault charge after heated exchange at A-League Grand Final.

MasterChef judge George Calombaris has been charged with assault after he was filmed pushing a fan at the A-League final in Sydney on Sunday.

Calombaris 38, was yesterday charged with the common assault of a 19-year-old man at Allianz Stadium in Moore Park.

Video footage showed him shoving the man in the chest during an argument after the conclusion of the match.

It follows headlines surrounding payment issues at Calombaris restaurants with some fans yelling that he should “pay your staff.”

On Monday he issued an apology for his behaviour, regretting his outburst after fans made personal comments.

The unidentified man later told A Current Affair, “It was unnecessary and erratic. I remember he just looked at me and sucker punched me right in the guts.”

A TEN spokesperson said: “Network Ten cannot comment in detail about an ongoing police investigation. This is a personal matter. George has apologised for his regrettable and out of character reaction, which was in response to highly inflammatory insults about his family. He is not proud of his actions, has taken responsibility for them, and has the full support of Network TEN.”

Calombaris is expected to appear at Downing Centre Local Court on June 29.
