HBO pursuing Game of Thrones spin-off/s

HBO closes deals with four different writers for possible GoT spin-offs.

HBO is covering all its bases on potential Game of Thrones spin-offs, closing deals with four different writers.

The four are Max Borenstein (Kong: Skull Island), Jane Goldman (Kingsman: The Golden Circle), Brian Helgeland (Legend), and Carly Wray (Mad Men, The Leftovers). Goldman and Wray will each be working individually with Thrones creator George R. R. Martin.

HBO says there is no deadline for the projects.

“We’ll take as much or as little time as the writers need and, as with all our development, we will evaluate what we have when the scripts are in,” a spokesperson said.

Executive producers and showrunners Dan Weiss and David Benioff will be attached to the four projects, as will Martin, but will not write on any of them.

Season 7 is set to premiere on July 16 comprising seven episodes with Season 8 due next year.

  1. Anthology series would have been better than spinoffs. Same universe, but different period of times and places. No main GoT characters. 8 episodes each season.
