News dominates following Manchester bombing

Ratings: Coverage of Manchester was prominent throughout Tuesday, with a close tussle in Reality shows in primetime.

News bulletins dominated viewing on Tuesday as viewers tuned in for news on the bombing in Manchester.

Nine News scored its highest weekday bulletin of the year outside of public holidays at 1.15m, with Seven close behind on 1.14m. For the record ABC drew 759,000,  TEN was 529,000 and SBS 145,000 for their bulletins.

When the news broke both Sunrise and Today extended their programmes for Live coverage, with Sunrise averaging 186,000, and Today with two figures for 10am (126,000) and 11am (133,000).

Nine News special: Manchester 104,000
ABC News Special: Manchester Explosion 76,000
ABC News Special: Manchester Explosion (morning) 63,000

Meanwhile it was a very close tussle in entertainment shows with The Voice back on top, just ahead of House Rules and MasterChef.

War on Waste  was again strong for ABC, while Seven Year Switch was up and Love Child enjoyed a big lift thanks to a decent lead-in.

Nine led in primary channels but Seven network won Tuesday with 28.0% then Nine 27.8%, TEN 21.25, ABC 17.4% and SBS 5.7%.

Seven News (1.14m / 1.04m) was best for Seven then House Rules (914,000), Home and Away (741,000), The Chase (696,000 / 437,000), Seven Year Switch (600,000) and Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares (340,000).

Nine News was #1 with 1.15m / 1.05m then The Voice (953,000), A Current Affair (894,000), Love Child (597,000), Hot Seat (586,000 / 309,000) and Operation Thailand (277,000).

MasterChef Australia (899,000), The Project (649,000 / 426,000), TEN Eyewitness News (529,000), NCIS (487,000), Family Feud (361,000) and NCIS: LA (347,000) comprised TEN’s night.

ABC News (759,000) led for ABC then War on Waste (754,000), 7:30 (512,000), Ask the Doctor (452,000), Foreign Correspondent (413,000), and Grand Designs (282,000).

On SBS it was Great Continental Railway Journeys (293,000), Insight (206,000), Dateline (173,000) and SBS World News (145,000).

Shaun the Sheep rammed it to the other multichannels with 250,000.

    Also just found out the BBC did basically the same program in the UK a couple of years ago, very similar format going by what I saw on YouTube.

  2. Just to clarify, there was no number available for Seven News special (11:30am to 5pm)?

    Or was the Sunrise nunber for it all (9am to 5pm)?

  3. Yes,i would agree with that.They’re culling characters at the same rate that Foxtel play is culling channels from their service.Who’s going to be left standing by the end of the series?

  4. Very emotional ep of Wentworth last night, can’t believe they’ve written out another main character. At this rate, they won’t have any cast left.
