The Last Ship halts production as Eric Dane battles depression

Season 5 is halted temporarily at the request of troubled star Eric Dane.

Production on the fifth season of US action drama The Last Ship has been shut down at the request of star Eric Dane, who suffers from depression.

“Eric asked for a break to deal with personal issues,” a spokesperson for Dane told Variety. “He suffers from depression and has asked for a few weeks of downtime and the producers kindly granted that request. He looks forward to returning.”

The TNT-produced drama has been renewed for Seasons 4 & 5, each consisting of 10 episodes, with both seasons are shooting back-to-back. The fourth season is already wrapped, meaning the premiere should not be pushed back by the delay.

Dane, who starred in Grey’s Anatomy from 2006 to 2012,  entered a 30-day rehabilitation program to battle an addiction to painkillers, following a sports injury.

The Last Ship screens in Australia on Stan.
