Today “Exclusive” out to spoil Sunrise guest

One Hollywood star. Two brekkie TV shows. One confused audience.

This morning when Sunrise ran a Tom Cruise interview the Today show ran another with Cruise interviewed by Richard Wilkins.

Both running at 7:43am, Today declared theirs an “Exclusive” filmed some six weeks ago.

Next week Cruise will visit Sunrise studios (please remove your couch), which should be a booster given Today won the ratings last week, their first this year.

All’s fair in love and other Cruises?

  1. I don’t like Tom Cruise, a few of his movies are ok but that’s about it. His ideas on life and his religious views are dubious, to me anyway. I can see that Nicole is a much happier person. Likely showing the interviews at the same time was to try and upstage one another, I think people will watch which ever show they prefer anyway, especially if a topic or person is on both channels at same time.

  2. Unfortunately, this childish nonsense is not restricted to their ratbag “current affairs” programs. Just saw a piece on Media Watch about Seven and Nine “News” Brisbane both claiming to have found a person being sought by police and claiming that their reporter was the one who rang the police.

Seven also said that their “crew” called 000, which should only be used for life-threatening emergencies. The number that they should have called is 131 444.

  3. What amounts to an “Exclusive” when an actor is simply doing the rounds to promote their upcoming movie. The word itself could be used if Tom decided to grant just one interview to an Australian Commercial Network, ABC, SBS, radio or print however in this case he is requiring mass exposure. David if anyone is at fault here it’s Today and Sunrise for their over-use of the word.

  4. Never cared for the man…as an actor or any aspect of his life….Never quite understood his popularity….may be just not my kind of movies?!?

  5. Confusion reigns over what is an “Exclusive”. I thought it would be exclusive if he only talked to one network during this interview session. Whereas, it appears he’s given multiple interviews [in what looks like on the same day]. so not really an “exclusive.” He’s hardly going to give an interview to two interviewers at once from different networks, so even though he’s talking about /promoting the same things to these two [and god knows how many more interviews he gave on the day] it’s not really an exclusive…. oh, forget it!

    1. TT and ACA has diluted the meaning of the word. I don’t use it on every interview I run, but I’m selective about whether it’s a rare chat or there are significant quotes / news.

  6. Does anyone really care who got the first interview these TV channels are worse than children, and do find channel nine seem to be the worst, what a change in direction since Kerry Packer was in charge, he would never have stood for such stupid things.

  7. “All’s fair in love and other Cruises?”

Careful David – keep those puns up & someone might cut off your Air Supply… 😉

  8. Why the fuss over a Tom Cruise interview? His time in the sun has ended after getting all freaky over Scientology… He is certainly not the superstar he used to be…Wouldn’t be calling him the world’s biggest star!!!

  9. So these exclusive interviews were pretty much standard press junket interviews? No doubt any hard or controversial questions were weeded out by the publicists.
