New family enters Summer Bay

Home and Away debuts the Astoni family on Tuesday.

A new family is joining Home and Away from tomorrow.

Husband and wife, Ben (Rohan Nichol) and Maggie (Kestie Morassi), and teenage daughters, Ziggy (Sophie Dillman) and Coco (Anna Cocquerel) are the Astoni family who discover Summer Bay during an escape from their home in the city.

Producer Lucy Addario says: “Like any family, they each have a keenly attuned instinct for riling each other up, but no matter what obstacles are thrown at them, the family know they’ve got each other’s back.

“Ultimately grounded by their fierce familial love, with a healthy dose of playfulness and infectious optimism thrown in the mix, The Astonis settle into the Summer Bay community without incident…almost!”

Out-of-towners, they each find their own trouble during the pit stop – offset by budding friendship and adventure. Is this the break the Astoni family need to make a new start? Summer Bay may be the perfect antidote for teenage daughters, Ziggy and Coco who are in a downward spiral in their school and personal lives back in the city.

Coco Astoni (played by Anna Cocquerel)
Coco was bright, funny and charming until she started high school and became the target of a group of ‘mean girls’. Coco withdrew and spent more time online feeding a growing social media addiction. Her spiral into self-doubt was further complicated by quarrels with her older sister Ziggy.

Maggie Astoni (played by Kestie Morassi)
Maggie Astoni is a teacher and soon-to-be principal of Summer Bay High School. She and her husband, Ben, are happily married with two teenage daughters.

Ben Astoni (played by Rohan Nichol)
Ben is a family man, besotted with his wife and a devoted father to Ziggy and Coco. His business in the city is floundering and his kids are going off the rails. Ben is looking for a circuit breaker.

Ziggy Astoni (played by Sophie Dillman)
Ziggy is a feisty and passionate 19-year-old who often feels like the odd one out in her family. She feels driven to rebel and act-out. She’s confident and fierce, but she’s lost in herself.

7pm Monday to Thursday on Seven.

    1. And the blonde one looks like the blonde one who was forever pregnant with a River Boys’s baby. Bonnie Sveen I think her name was in real life?? This is why they need opening titles again, so we know when new cast members arrive, as they all look the same.

    2. I’d like to see a gay male couple on the show as regular characters. They keep repeating the same boring plot lines do something different.

      1. Agreed! Or even just some people of colour and varying ethnicities. It’s just all so white and generic. Even neighbours seems to have diversified their cast more in the last few years. Such a big contrast to the big U.K. soaps who have had diverse casts for decades.

        1. I think Astoni is an Italian surname, but Summer Bay does lack diversity of ethnicity, skin colour and sexuality.
@Jason120au. I have given up on a regular gay male character. They have never had a gay male and they have started recycling storylines too much in recent years…
