The power of music unites Manchester

Children danced with police, teens wept in solidarity and music strengthened the resolve of those impacted by UK terror attacks.

Police danced with children, teens wept in solidarity at the One Love Manchester Concert earlier today.

Robbie Williams reunited with Take That, Coldplay sang Fix You, Justin Bieber made an emotional plea, Katy Perry mdae them ‘Roar’ and Ariana Grande duetted Crowded House’s Don’t Dream it’s Over with Miley Cyrus.

The concert drew emotional scenes to honour those affected by recent events in Manchester, and less than 24 hours after attacks London. More than 60,000 fans packed the Old Trafford cricket ground for a star-studded line-up of performers.

Grande kicked off her performance with her hits Be Alright and Break Free.

“Manchester, we’re gonna be alright,” she told the audience.

“The kind of love and unity that you’re displaying is the medicine that the world really needs, really needs right now,” she said.

“Manchester, I love you with all my heart.

“Thank you so, so, so much.”

In addition to headliner Grande, One Love Manchester also featured performances from Justin Bieber, The Black Eyed Peas, Coldplay, Miley Cyrus, Niall Horan, Little Mix, Katy Perry, Take That, Imogen Heap, Pharrell Williams, Robbie Williams, Victoria Monét, Marcus Mumford, and Liam Gallagher. Other celebrities showed their support via a pre-recorded message.

More than 14,000 tickets for the concert were set aside to be given free to fans who attended Grande’s original show.

After serenading the stadium with Over the Rainbow, a tearful Grande told Manchester “Thank you so much, I love you.”

The concert aired Live today on UKTV and is replayed tonight at 7:30pm, and on Nine at 8:40pm.

  1. I stayed up late and watched this on YouTube live seeing as though we had a public holiday today in WA. Absolutely loved the concert. It was just what everyone needed.

  2. Hi David. Good piece. Think there may be a tiny typo at the end – should be either on “UKTV” [the channel] or perhaps “in the UK”?.
    I’m not a particular fan of Ariana Grande but the clips I’ve seen of her emotional rendition of “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” (which was a fitting way to close the concert) was extremely powerful and moving – especially in the context of the recent horrors in Manchester and London.
