Airdate: Inside World War II

SBS premieres a new series, aimed at military historians.

On Sunday SBS premieres a new history series, Inside World War II.

This is a 3 part series that should appeal to military historians, but it is screening in a late night time slot.

Over 70 years ago, ordinary citizens were called to duty in a fight to defend freedom, honour and country. Germany, Italy and Japan had set their sights on world domination while the US and its allies rose up to fight.

This three-part series takes an intimate look at personal wartime experiences from the perspective of a wide array of veterans and citizens who endured the frontline’s bloody conflicts each day.

Episode One:
The first episode starts in September 1933, with Hitler’s address to the Nazi Party in Nuremberg and ends with the Battle of Midway in 1942.

Sunday, 30 July at 10.50pm on SBS.

  1. I hear Adolph Hitler is working on a new train documentary series starting with episode one “Crossing Poland In A Day” I reckon that will definitely re-capture the 7.30 slot on SBS, if you ask me.

    1. That’s episode 3. The first ep is “Anschluss”, a rail loop through Austria that brings you back to Germany and the second is “The Czechoslovakia Annex”, initially a spur-line into Sudetenland that was later extended into Bohemia and Moravia, and later the rest of the country.

  2. A constant stream of military historical documentaries of varying quality has long constituted a large part of SBS screen time-lead to the description of SBS as ‘All Hitler, all the time’-I still remember their glory days of ‘Ken Burns’ The Civil War’ in the 80s
