Airdate: Jungletown

Can a group of idealistic students create ‘the world's greatest sustainable modern town’ in the Panamanian jungle?

SBS VICELAND premieres Jungletown, a new 10 part series in which doco director Ondi Timoner (Dig!) embeds herself within a group of idealistic students and a charismatic entrepreneur trying to create ‘the world’s greatest sustainable modern town’ in the Panamanian jungle.

Timoner captures the struggles of the group members as their dreams of a ‘sacred land’ conflicts with the reality that they are in the middle of a jungle and have to make everything they need – from basic shelter to a functional community – from scratch.

Plans to double the commune with more inhabitants threatens the existing community who thought they were building their own utopia… only to be reminded it was never theirs to begin with.

Season One, Episode One: Welcome to the Jungle
Eighty interns say goodbye to their families and comfortable homes to descend into the jungle of Panama and build a makeshift town. It’s the hardest semester in Kalu Yala’s history, with the most rain and interns, putting a strain on this fragile community.

Tuesday, 18 July at 9.30pm on SBS VICELAND.
