New detective project for Helen Mirren

Veteran actress tired of receiving scripts with characters suffering from dementia or dying in a cancer ward.

Helen Mirren is hoping to return to the detective genre with a new project currently being shopped to UK broadcasters.

Mirren is reuniting with executive producer Andy Harries (The Queen, The Crown) to play a retired detective training police personnel at a refugee camp in Jordan.

The project is written by writer Guy Hibbert (Eye in the Sky).

“Helen was sick of receiving terrible scripts that either had her character suffering from dementia or dying in a cancer ward,” Harries tells Royal Television Society’s magazine, Television.

“She wanted something that reflected her own life as an active, 70-year-old woman.”

Meanwhile a sequel to her hit franchise Prime Suspect is currently screening in Australia on ABC.

  1. Well, she could have been in ‘New Tricks’…also believe that the 1973 version has failed and been cancelled.-she was also in a recent film playing a British army officer who would have been 20 years younger than Helen’s actual age so she’s even edging out 50 year old actresses from parts!
