Seven objects to Amber statement

Court adjourns case until Wednesday after Seven lawyers strike out all but 4 paragraphs of statement by Amber Harrison.

The case between Seven and former executive assistant Amber Harrison has been adjourned until tomorrow after some drama this morning in which Seven lawyers objected to most of a prepared statement she was to read to the court.

Harrison was on the phone from Melbourne to a jam-packed NSW Supreme Court and was due to read a 3 page statement.

Seven West Media is proceeding to have her permanently silenced and is seeking legal costs.

The court adjourned for a short period while Harrison emailed her statement in case Seven’s lawyers wanted to object to any of its content.

“It should be furnished to us first to give us an opportunity to briefly read it,” Dr Andrew Bell told the court.

All but four paragraphs were struck out by Seven’s legal team.

Bell reminded the presiding judge, Justice Sackar, there had been concerns in the case over the release of “scandalous” material.

“He has left four paragraphs in three pages is that correct?” Harrison asked the court by phone.

Justice John Sacker instructed she was only to make submissions on court costs.

The court adjourned for a second time to allow Harrison time to consider what remained of her statement.

Justice Sackar ended today’s proceedings by ordering an adjournment until 2:00pm tomorrow to give Harrison the chance to redraft her statement and remove the offending material.

Seven’s legal costs are estimated to be around $250,000.

Harrison has indicated if the court orders costs against her she would file for bankruptcy.
