Tommy Little reflects on A League of Their Own

"We made a really funny show and then we found out afterwards that they were cutting it for a family friendly timeslot," says Tommy Little.

Late last week Tommy Little reflected on the failed TEN 2013 series A League of Their Own.

The panel / game show, which also featured Pat Cash and Eamon Sullivan, was culled within 2 months of its debut after disappointing ratings.

Speaking to Rachel Corbett on her podcast You’ve Gotta Start Somewhere, Little said most of the jokes were written for an adult audience, but the 7:30 timeslot meant the gags had to be edited out.

“I was too green to host.”

“[It’s] an awesome format but they f***ed it 42 different ways here. There was all this bad communication in it and we made a really funny show and then we found out afterwards that they were cutting it for a family friendly timeslot. We didn’t know that,” he said.

“If I’d had more experience I would have been up in arms,” he told Corbett, “but because I was new I didn’t know and I just nodded like a d***head”.

“With more experience, if they’d tried to do what they did with that show again, I would openly drop support of the show. You get to a point where you realise putting something bad out is more detrimental than putting nothing out.”

    1. I’ve always felt This Week Live was a victim of bad timing. There were so many flops at the time there was no patient. If it had been a different year they might have stuck with it and it would still be here….

      1. Would have loved This Week Live to have continued. It always had its work cut out given it was programmed against ABC’s established Wednesday comedy lineup. Was it canned for any other reason apart from ratings? By today’s standard, it wasn’t bad at all. It’s amazing he still wants anything to do with Ten given what happened with these two shows
