TEN last night revealed its first teaser for Wake In Fright, the new interpretation of the classic 1961 psychological thriller written by Australian journalist and novelist, Kenneth Cook.

The two-part miniseries follows a young school teacher who finds himself marooned in a small mining town in Australia’s outback. A dangerous series of events ensues.

Featuring Sean Keenan (Glitch, Puberty Blues) as young school teacher John Grant, Wake In Fright comprises an all-star cast that includes David Wenham (Lion, Top Of The Lake, Lord Of The Rings) as Police Sergeant Jock Crawford, Alex Dimitriades (The Slap, Underbelly) as Evan “Doc” Tydonas, Caren Pistorius (Offspring) as Janette Hynes, Gary Sweet (House Husbands, Police Rescue) as Tim Hynes and Robyn Malcolm (Upper Middle Bogan, Rake) as Ursula Hynes.

Set in one of the most inhospitable places on earth – the Australian outback – there are few stories as original or compelling as Wake In Fright. Told through the eyes of John Grant, this contemporary, edge-of-your-seat mini-series is set to thrill and captivate viewers.

  1. This will have to be completely awesome to even come near the original. Dimitriades will have his work cut out if he can get near Donald Pleasences’ Doc Tydon character. It would have to be his greatest performance. And David Wenham as Jock Crawford…..Chips Rafferty was as natural as an old shoe in this role…it needs stealth and underlying menace as well as the ruffish, shoved down your throat hospitality……Can’t Wait…Bring it on….!! I saw this when I was 15 and experienced much of this as a young man, including roo shoots that made me squeamish…!

  2. Trailer looks exactly like the movie
But why change anything – movie is greatest Aussie film ever made in my opinion
And the cast for this is superb
    I’m in

    1. I decided to watch the original again yesty. If I have seen it before I barely remember. Impressive film, it will be hard to better, and the language and behaviour of its time may be lost. In some shots I thought I was looking at Joel Jackson, but looking forward to Sean Keenan.

  3. Can’t wait for this.
Sean Keenan is a young actor on the rise – he has really shone in all his roles so far.
Also features a couple more of my favourite actors – David Wenham and Alex Dimitriades.
The original really resonated with me – disturbing but brilliantly executed.
Hope this new version is just as good and is able to capture the same menacing atmosphere.
