WWE comes to 9GO!

One-hour versions of WWE’s Raw & SmackDown begin on 9GO! from this week.

9GO! will broadcast weekly one-hour versions of WWE’s Raw and SmackDown from tomorrow.

9GO! will televise a one-hour edition of Raw on Thursdays from August 17, and a one-hour edition of SmackDown on Fridays immediately following the Friday Night Movie.

“We are thrilled to add another best-in-class TV partner to our roster in Australia to deliver content to our fans,” said Michelle Wilson, WWE Chief Revenue & Marketing Officer. “Our partnership with Nine Network enables us to expand our reach in Australia and complements our live programming in the region.”

WWE recently extended its partnership with Foxtel to broadcast Raw Live and SmackDown Live each week.

WWE Raw 11:10pm Thursday August 17
WWE Smackdown 11:50pm Friday August 18

  1. Was basically a giant advert for Summerslam and the WWE Network with really bad editing. Men’s match starts and 30 seconds in cut to an ad break come back and 60 seconds later the match is over with the commentators saying I wonder if Balor has enough left in him, making it obvious around 5 mins was cut. Same with the women’s match, really made it look like Nia Jax went down too easy with Banks being beaten the whole match.

If I was Nine I’d be asking them to do better edits on the product sent to them, at least with one full match. In contrast Lucha Underground can put on a 1 hour show (50 mins with ads) and have 3 top matches while still telling a great story and continuation of fueds. With Mark Burnett as executive producer (and head of MGM who makes it with Robert Rodriguez), I’m certain he’s brought his team from the reality shows he does as the editing is slick and very…

  2. I remember finding an old VHS tape with Wrestlemania 2 recorded from Channel 10.

I’m sure this will be a better stint than what WWE had in the past, late night / early morning on channel 10.

    1. PPV events are available on The WWE Network for US $9.99 per month, not sure why the WWE would cost themselves that income to show PPV events on a FTA network for free when I doubt Channel 9 would much for the content.

The addition of 1-hour versions of Raw & Smackdown to FTA is more likely just a promotional tool for the WWE with the rights been given for a minimal amount. By having shorter versions of the shows on a 2 day delay it maintains the Foxtel contract while growing the audience base that they can then advertise products too (WWE Network, Tour tickets, merchandise, etc)

The time of night wouldn’t even be a concern for the WWE as I’m sure the agreement will include 9Now! access as well so people can watch it online.

  3. Wonder why they held it off for a week, was supposed to start last week according to all the TV Guides, be interesting to see RAW cut down to an hour from a 3 hour show (Smackdown from 2 hours). Shame someone couldn’t get hold of the NXT or Cruiserweight brand (205Live) of WWE to have on-air, as they are only on the WWE Network App and far superior in my view to RAW and Smackdown.

Would still love for GFW, Lucha Underground, ROH or All Japan Pro (AJPW) to get on our screens, with all the multi-channels I think there’s a place for it, love my scripted performed in front of a live audience Wrestling. Some of the things they do in the four just mentioned would make some stuntmen shuddder knowing they only have one take to get it right and that it’s not done being protected by wires or flipped around by them. With the success of Australian Ninja it’s suprising some channels…

    1. Given this same press release has made its way around wrestling news sites overnight, I suspect either someone jumped the gun in the programming department or they were still finalising the deal. WWE won’t make NXT or 205Live available for purchase as they want them as Network exclusives to drive customers to that platform, otherwise I think Foxtel would still happily be airing NXT.
