Nine refreshes Sydney News set
Sydney viewers yesterday saw a new-look Nine News 6pm bulletin.
It follows a leaked email in April from Sydney News Director Darren Wick promising, “a brand new set in Studio One. This will be a bigger, better home for Pete, Fergo, Kenny and Jaynie. And it’ll have more impact on the viewers at home, helping to re-establish our 6pm as the must-see news bulletin of the day.”
The set features the Sydney Harbour Bridge prominently in the background, described by Wick as “a cutting-edge set. It’s a set that takes news presentation …
Henderson inside the box
New Zealander Martin Henderson is the first actor cast in Shonda Rhimes new project, Inside the Box.
The series is set in a Washington network news bureau and centres on Catherine, an ambitious female news producer, and her colleagues pursuing “the story” at all costs while juggling their personal animosities and crises of conscience (apologies to Brooke Vandenburg?).
Like Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice, it is an ensemble built around a professional woman and her on-again-off-again relationship with a handsome male co-worker.
Henderson will play the male heartthrob named Jake, Catherine’s right hand man.

CBS, ABC pilots
More pilots have been greenlit in the US with big names attached including Jerry Bruckheimer, McG and Mitch Hurwitz.
ABC approved an untitled pilot from Jerry Bruckheimer revolving around a team of dedicated amateur detectives working on cases of unidentified victims. If the pilot goes to series, it would be Bruckheimer’s first scripted show on ABC. The network famously passed on CSI before it was sold to CBS.
Producer/ Director McG also won pilot approval for Limelight, a soap set around the teachers and students of a performing arts college in New York …
Can The Block boys score a Home Run?
Big Brother may have been eliminated this year, but Nine’s newest show in development could be hoping to take its place next year.
Home Run, developed by The Block’s Julian Cress and David Barbour is described as “the biggest renovation competition to hit Australian television.”
The show will air on the Nine Network in the first-half of 2009, Monday-Friday. If it is stripped as a 7pm show, it could attempt to go where TEN’s renovation contest, The Hothouse, failed.
Across the series interior designers will battle it out as they make over everyday …
Looking for the magic touch
TEN’s line up for 2009 includes more factual series than ever, returning favourites and new international content. After a disappointing 2008, especially in the second half, TEN will need the magic touch to win back loyal viewers.
The network made the announcement today as part of a three day tour across the country.
Headlining the announcement is the acquisition of the 2014 Commonwealth Games. Cooking show MasterChef Australia will replace Big Brother across a 7pm timeslot mid year.
Another 7pm strip show is yet to be announced.
The new locally produced factual shows include …
