Torchwood simmers while AFL burns
Fans of Captain Jack and co. you have the Brownlow Medal and 90210 to “thank” for this.
This Monday night there is no Torchwood because of the AFL’s night of nights at Crown Casino. That means 90210 and Burn Notice are also off air as a result. In NSW and QLD, TEN has 90210 followed by highlights from the Emmy Awards.
So on Monday September 29 there is still some adjustment to do. Viewers in Vic, SA and WA will have a double 90210 in order to catch up to other states, followed …
Seven: ASTRA comments “bored us rigid.”
The war of words between ASTRA and the Seven Network over sports and the anti-siphoning list continues.
Today the Seven Network was all puffed out of arguments, issuing a blunt, two-sentence response to the three page press release from ASTRA.
Seven simply said, quote, “ASTRA’s latest comments have bored us rigid. We’re so bored we can’t even raise the enthusiasm to reply.” Unquote.
You gotta love a bared-boned, dinky-di Australian reaction from the network, and one that is totally outside traditional corporate responses. TV Tonight wishes we had more tell-it-like-it-is responses from our …

AFL fans in NSW, Qld and the ACT will be able to watch the Brownlow Medal live on the Main Event channel before the delayed telecast on Network TEN.
Main Event is offering the telecast free to subscription viewers next Monday night.
TEN screens a delayed telecast in those states after midnight.

City Homicide v Brownlow
Next week Seven has programmed a repeat of City Homicide in Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth.
It will repeat an episode featuring Vince Colosimo from 2007.
Viewers in Sydney and Brisbane will see a new episode instead.
Of course Monday is the same night that Network TEN has The Brownlow Medal in the same three cities. Last year when the event was screened by Seven it attracted 1.4m viewers.
As yet Seven hasn’t indicated if those three cities are likely to catch up to viewers in Sydney and Brisbane.
Takin’ it to the malls
Australian Idol singers yesterday appeared at Westpoint Blacktown in Sydney.
It was their first shopping centre appearance in the 2008 season and by the looks of these photos, there were plenty on hand to squeal deliriously.
American Idol’s Jordin Sparks also performed.
Every year the Idol singers take it to the great unwashed as a way of keeping in touch with viewers and voters. They have traditionally appeared at Federation Square Melbourne during the AFL Grand Final week too. So far, there’s no confirmation on that for next week just yet.
Last year the singers …
Airdate: The Season’s Best
In the lead up to AFL’s big day, Seven has a one-off special looking at the 2008 season to air in Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth next Wednesday night.
The Season’s Best will look at “some of the biggest hits, best marks and goals, coaches’ dummy spits and clangers.” Hosted by Hamish McLachlan from AFL Game Day, he will be joined by Tim Watson, Jason Akermanis and Andrew Welsh.
Also joining are Dave Lawson and Stephen Curry while Sonia Kruger and Jo Stanley look at “players’ wives and girlfriends,” -take note blondes at …
If it’s Thursday changes it must be AFL
There are more changes for Seven scheduling this week, once again built around AFL finals and the league’s movable feast of time and match details.
Although American Dad is again out of schedule, Seven has taken steps to address its absence, by slating a Friday edition of the first episode bumped by AFL finals, “Haylias” (see, they do hear you!).
As with previous weeks these changes apply to Seven viewers in Melbourne. Adelaide and Perth viewers should check local guides.

All the regulars, Mick Molloy, Dave Hughes, Andrew Maher, Sam Lane, Peter Helliar and Lehmo will be joind by Ryan Fitzgerald plus a number of AFL players.
This year of course the AFL Grand Final is on the Seven Network, but TEN gets the Brownlow Medal.

Seven wins as TEN is taken out
It was the week that Ernie Dingo and Kyle Sandilands had a spat on radio, the ABC renewed its push for a kids’ channel, Access 31 was put on the market, TEN picked up women’s netball from FOX Sports, GTV9 won a Heritage listing, Nine axed its Euro correspondent, Underbelly won the right to start screening in Victoria (sort of), TEN and Seven fought over AFL sponsors and a 17yo reality contestant took a stand on her show’s conduct.
And it was another big win for Seven with 29.9% in Week 37 …
Airdate: Knight Rider telemovie
The telemovie remake of Knight Rider will air this month on Seven before it unleashes the series in October.
Seven has slated the film in the surprising time of 9pm Saturday September 27. For what is effectively a springboard to the subsequent series, it is an interesting choice.
Although the film is rated M the timeslot could be a late start for kids. The film will follow the family movie Cars at 6:30pm. Being a Saturday night, young adults are likely to already be enjoying their weekend too, especially those who have been enjoying the …
AFL bumps American Dad
Further Seven amendments this Thursday because of AFL commitments will see changes in Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth markets. In Sydney the Western Bulldogs v Sydney match will screen live at 7:30pm Friday.
The changes are affected by start times of the AFL semi finals, which are also dependent on ticket sales.
The move means another episode of American Dad, “42yo Virgin”, is out of schedule, following the dropping of “Haylias” in Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth.

Grand brawl over AFL sponsors
Channel Seven has denied the network has tried to poach sponsors from Network TEN in the lead up to the AFL Grand Final.
Seven’s Sydney sales director Adam Elliott said the network sold most of its finals commercial time in year-long or finals series deals.
This year Seven has the AFL Grand Final, as part of a rotating deal between Seven, TEN and the AFL. The Australian today reports that Seven has attempted to poach TEN’s AFL finals advertisers with the promise of a presence in the grand final telecast.
“Seven is offering …
