Liza Minnelli is reportedly joining the cast of Ugly Betty for a multi-episode arc.
The legendary entertainer will apparently be playing Lena Korvinka, a high school drama teacher at Justin’s (Mark Indelicato) school -totally camp idea!
Liza was going to have knee replacement surgery at the end of January, but her shoot is supposed to begin in Brooklyn this week.
“Ugly Betty’s producers presented her with a great offer and a hilarious story and they kept coming back to her,” said one source. “She’s going to be playing an outrageous drama teacher and it …
The Greatest TV Shows Of The Noughties?
Lists, lists and more lists emerging as the year and the decade draw to a close.
There are many opinions about which shows have shaped the last ten years of television.
The Sunday Age on the weekend noted: The Sopranos, The Office, Australian Idol, Big Brother and Lost.
“Big Brother debuted in the Netherlands in 1999. By 2001 we had our own version, and we could not believe our eyes. For the first time we were seeing not just real people on television, but real people like us. Despite furious denial in some …
Arrested Development: no movie script yet
Bad news, Arrested Development fans.
It seems earlier talk of a feature film is a loooong way off.
Writer Mitch Hurwitz and co-executive producer James Vallely had been reportedly ‘working on the screenplay.’ But so far there is still no script.
MTV met up with Michael Cera, aka George-Michael Bluth, while he was promoting his new film “Youth in Revolt.”
“I don’t have any updates, no,” Cera said. “They haven’t written it yet. They’re working on outlining it right now.”
Cera said the film is on the backburner while Hurwitz is working on a new project.
“I …

Laughing matter
“2003 was the last time that all three networks had sketch comedy on at the same time,” ponders producer David McDonald. “Comedy Inc, The Big Bite and Skithouse all launched the same year, within a month of each other I think.”
His producing partner Rick Kalowski chimes in: “And Ronnie Johns was always a shell game. It was on but they (TEN) were not going to tell you when. Work it out for yourself. But when was the last time there was a hard launch of a commercial primetime …
Sit Down, Shut Up: “one big letdown”
Another Australian format adapted by the Americans has landed dud reviews.
This time however, it has to be said the original series was not even a hit here. Sit Down, Shut Up was a short-lived 2000 sitcom on Channel TEN with a cast including Stephen Curryand Marg Downey.
The show featured teachers who misbehaved more than their students. It was picked up by Arrested Development’s Mitch Hurwitz and animated with voices including Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, Henry Winkler and Kristen Chenoweth.
It will premiere on FOX this Sunday night.

Roseanne hopes for TV comeback
Roseanne Barr has teamed with one of her former sitcom producers, Caryn Mandabach, for a family comedy in which she would (again) play the matriarch. Mandabach has recently been producing for the BBC. In the U.S., she executive produces Showtime’s upcoming series Nurse Jackie, starring Edie Falco.
The Hollywood Reporter notes Jim Vallely (Arrested Development) is also attached to write the script for the project, which has been pitched to the FOX network.
After her nine-year run in on Roseanne, Barr fronted a syndicated talk show and a reality series for ABC.

CBS, ABC pilots
More pilots have been greenlit in the US with big names attached including Jerry Bruckheimer, McG and Mitch Hurwitz.
ABC approved an untitled pilot from Jerry Bruckheimer revolving around a team of dedicated amateur detectives working on cases of unidentified victims. If the pilot goes to series, it would be Bruckheimer’s first scripted show on ABC. The network famously passed on CSI before it was sold to CBS.
Producer/ Director McG also won pilot approval for Limelight, a soap set around the teachers and students of a performing arts college in New York …
Big screen Gilligan?
Arrested Development’s ‘George Michael’ as a big screen Gilligan?
It’s an idea being pursued by creator Sherwood Schwartz (The Brady Bunch) and his son Lloyd Schwartz. Certainly the Brady franchise was enormously popular for Schwartz and Paramount on the big screen, thanks to the irreverent tone set by a stage production that had become a cult hit.
If the two Schwartzes have it their way, Michael Cera will be slipping into that famous red shirt and white hat as Gilligan. They are also currently trying to nab Beyonce as movie star Ginger.
