Top Gear loss “not the be-all and end-all”
TV Tonight continues its interviews with key executives in television. Following on from last week’s interviews with Seven, ABC, TEN and Nine, today the spotlight turns to SBS Director of Content Matt Campbell.
The last two weeks have not been without their challenges for Campbell, who learned the fate of Top Gear, a programme he had taken a punt on many years ago when no other network would touch it.

Call to close anti-siphoning’s “loophole”
Seven, Nine and TEN have called on the government to close a loophole that allows Pay TV channels to acquire sports events before free to air broadcasters.
The claim is submitted by Free TV Australia to the review of the anti-siphoning list. There were 322 submissions received, which are available for reading here.
In 2005 FOX Sports purchased rights to the Ashes series prior to any free to air broadcasters. Free TV says it is the channel providers who bid for sports rights, not the platform operators.

Returning: Tour de France
The world’s most prestigious cycling event, Tour de France, returns to SBS from Saturday July 4 to Monday 27 July from 10.00pm on SBS TWO and SBS ONE.
Ther ace will depart from Monaco and will cover 3,500 kilometres before ending in spectacular fashion along the Champs-Elysees in Paris. For the first time in the tour’s history, riders will need to contend a mountain finish the day before the peloton descends on the final stage in Paris.
SBS plans a multi platform delivery of the Tour. Viewers can watch all 21 stages …
