Government hints at ‘Use it or Lose it’ outcome
The government is hinting at its options in regards to the Anti-Siphoning list review.
And Pay TV will probably be liking what they are hearing.
Senator Conroy has said free-to-air television operators had damaged their argument for retention of current arrangements by purchasing sporting rights and then not broadcasting them.
“That has led to an enormous backlash against commercial TV,” he told ABC Radio on Friday.
“I think there is a very valid case to be made for a use-it-or-lose-it style provision.”
So far this is in keeping with what the Pay TV sector has lobbied …
Snow job on promos
“If you’re looking for a laugh,” said Eddie McGuire, “don’t forget Australia’s number one comedy Two and a Half Men.”
That came sometime after the plug for Top Gear.
Nine is also promising Wicked Love and V “After the Olympics.” Sounds a bit like “After the Tennis.”
If they start getting actual sports commentators to plug the shows we’ll have ourselves a carbon copy of Seven’s Australian Open.
Meanwhile a Press Release from Nine yesterday creatively claimed Nine had 4.7m watching the Opening Ceremony.
“4.7 million Australians tuned in to watch the magic and excitement of …

Summer’s winners and losers
The summer ratings season of 2009 -2010 has ended.
And while Seven has come out on top, Nine also found reason to smile.

ABC: 17.5 (16.6)
SBS: 6.9 (7.1)
But comparisons to last summer are tricky given not all networks had digital channels operating, and Timeshifting was also introduced on December 27th.

Aus Open down, but it’s all about the News.
Channel Seven’s 2010 Australian Open has lost more than four million viewers nationally compared to 2009, claims media analyst Steve Allen.

The drop comes at a time when the network is already under fire from viewers in radio talkback, online and print.

Meanwhile, Rebecca Wilson writes that the audience for Seven News yields …
