Nine wanted Kyle too
Channel Nine was just as interested in hiring Kyle Sandilands as Seven, the new Australia’s Got Talent judge has said.
Both networks were on the phone on January 1st -his first day out of contract with TEN after being dumped from Australian Idol.
“I couldn’t do anything after I got sacked because I was still contracted to TEN,” he told the Sunday Herald Sun.
“But then Seven rang and had this (AGT) on offer while Nine said they wanted me to do something, but they had nothing, and I didn’t want to do Burke’s …

The third series will see a winner given a contract with Brisbane Roar and a one year university scholarship.
No hosts have been announced for the third series, with Brian McFadden now a judge on Australia’s Got Talent.

Red Symons confirmed for Hey Hey return
Red Symons is confirmed to return to Hey Hey its Saturday.
Daryl Somers told the dedicated Facebook page of the news late last night:
Hi Guys
I wanted you all to be the first to know about some exciting news you might read in the papers tomorrow.
There’s certainly been a lot of speculation as to who’s going to be part of the line-up for Hey Hey this year.
It gives me great pleasure to let you know that Red is locked in and will be part of the fun in 2010.
We’re all busy working …
Got Talent no Idol wannabe
Seven’s head of programming Tim Worner says Australia’s Got Talent will remain true to its format despite hiring former Idol identities Kyle Sandilands and Executive Producers Greg Benness and Suzanne Mitchell.
“In talking to producers [FremantleMedia Australia] about the show, we have never discussed Idol,” Worner told the Sunday Telegraph.
“We are certainly not marching into Idol or Popstars territory, that is not the intent. But we are marching towards a bigger and better show.
“Thousands are turning up for the auditions in cities across the country and the numbers are double – sometimes …
Fighting over the same carcasses
In entertainment news it’s reasonable to expect that journos at some point or another will all be fighting over the same carcasses.
It’s best done with a point of difference either in fact or opinion.
So it is with some interest today that a story on Australian Idol producers shifting to Australia’s Got Talent appears in one metro daily newspaper today -after it was published by TV Tonight yesterday.
No attribution. No advancing of the story. No name of the journo. Not even asking for a quote for the story.
…..thanks for that.
Coincidence? You …
Australia’s Got Talent to become the new Idol
The “Idolisation” of Australia’s Got Talent continues with word that two producers from the TEN reality show are now working on the Seven show.
FremantleMedia Australia produces both shows, and while there is still no clear outcome for Australian Idol, its Executive Producers Greg Benness and Suzanne Mitchell have shifted to become consulting producers on the Got Talent audition tour.
That could also suggest Idol is increasingly unlikely to return this year given auditions for the TEN show normally begin in April. Both talent shows would overlap behind the scenes.
Benness and Mitchell look …
‘Slap My Elbow’
Filming continues on Chris Lilley’s Angry Boys series, the follow up to Summer Heights High (pictured).
The comedy is already one of the most anticipated new shows of 2011, in which he explores ‘what it means to be a 21st century boy by putting the male of the species under the microscope.’
Last week producers filmed a rap dancing trio at Highpoint Shopping Centre in Melbourne.
A song and dance number called ‘Slap My Elbow’ was performed to a huge crowd, evidence of the group’s booming popularity within the series….
Dannii returns to AGT, Brian McFadden imminent.
Talk has ramped up on the two judging chairs beside Kyle Sandilands on Australia’s Got Talent.
The Sunday Telegraph reports on the return of the expectant Dannii Minogue, noting a Seven spokesperson confirmed her imminent signing.
Meanwhile media has tipped Brian McFadden to indeed win the third seat on the judging panel.
Last Thursday, entertainment reporter Peter Ford confirmed his role on Radio 3AW despite Seven declining to comment. Today the Sydney Morning Herald adds fuel to the fire, claiming he is in negotiations with the network. Both claims follow previous speculation that …
Kyle to join Australia’s Got Talent
Kyle Sandilands is set to return to judging TV talent on Australia’s Got Talent, according to the Daily Telegraph.
The controversial radio man, who has previously been tipped to join the show, will reportedly announce his judging role on his breakfast show tomorrow.
Sandilands was famously dumped by Australian Idol following a controversial radio stunt last year, but later acknowledged he understood the reasons behind the network’s move.
The newspaper says neither Seven nor Sandilands’s agent Andrew Hawkins returned calls on the question of his AGT role, but noted that TV industry sources confirmed …
Got Talent, got McFadden?
Another hint today that Red Symons might be exiting Australia’s Got Talent and returning to Hey Hey its Saturday.
Both the Herald Sun and Daily Telegraph claim Symons could be departing the talent show, in favour of his former variety show at Nine.
That would leave a vacancy -or two of Tom Burlinson is not asked to return.
Kyle Sandilands and his pal Brian McFadden are two names believed to be in contention. On the safe list is Dannii Minogue, who ironically replaced Sandilands and Jackie-O on radio when they were pulled off air …
Change of weather for Denyer? No thanks.
There’s been a bit of speculation this week that Grant Denyer’s return to Sunrise, was very nearly a switch to the Today show.
On Tuesday, the Daily Telegraph noted it was “intrigued to hear that Denyer’s services were being discussed at other networks, a matter of some surprise to Seven yesterday.”
A Seven spokesperson responded, “That’s the first I’ve heard of that. And for one, he’s contracted to Seven for the new series of Australia’s Got Talent, which is coming up soon, so he wouldn’t be able to work for another network …
