Big Brother’s Rory charged
Another Big Brother housemate is in trouble with the law with news that 2008 runner-up Rory Ammon has been charged for his part in an alleged assault of a cyclist.
But the 22-year-old yesterday denies he has done anything wrong.
Victorian Police yesterday revealed that 22yo Ammon had been charged on summons with assault in company and failure to disclose the name of the driver at the time of the incident.
It is alleged that while driving in Geelong on March 29, Ammon swerved towards a 27-year-old cyclist and came within 60cm of him. …
Axed: Download
Network TEN has hit the “stop” button on its Download ‘internet clip show’ after just two episodes.
The Mike Goldman, Bree Amer and Ryan ‘Fitzy’ Fitzgerald series was in its second season, hosting video clips packaged together with commentary, competitions and special guests.
It will be replaced by Canada’s Ice Road Truckers effective from this Friday at 7:30pm.
Ten episodes of the show were filmed with the former Big Brother trio earlier this year. But last week it had 526,000 viewers.
The axing is a disappointment to TEN’s struggling Friday line-ups. Earlier this month TV …
TEN the biggest loser in earnings
Despite a positive start to the year with So You Think You Can Dance and The Biggest Loser, Network TEN has today reported a 25% slump in earnings for 2007/08 financial year. But TEN lost steam with Big Brother.
The network signalled today it will still hold on Idol next year, ahead of its 2009 launch.
TEN said earnings at its television business fell 11.8% to $209 million, falling short of its own forecast in June, when it warned TV profits would be down about 10% because of the economic slowdown and Seven’s …
TT accuses Idol of “insider trading?”
Move over “Hillsong scandal.”
Last night Today Tonight had another story sticking the boot into Australian Idol. Our current affairs shows love to run stories on the machinations of reality shows (instead of the machinations of current affairs shows). It’s commonly seen as a win / win. The show pulls in fans of the reality show which in turn gets a bit of exposure, frequently on a rival network.
TT ran a story on a supposedly huge bet being wagered on former finalist Brooke Adamo. It was wagered when she was at $15 …
TEN eyeing more factuals
It’s only early days on this news, but Network TEN is believed to be on the hunt for more light factual entertainment shows that can be stripped across its earlier primetime slots.
TEN execs are at MIPCOM in Cannes to look at new products for its 2009 slate.
As we know, Seven has built a formidable programming platform based around factual series on early weeknights. Shows like Border Security, The Force, RSPCA Animal Rescue and Medical Emergency have given the network a stronghold, that leads into 8:30 dramas.
Now TEN is understood to be …
Downloading a trio of fun
This Friday night TEN returns its re-titled clip show Download to screen, hosted by the Friday Night Live crew Mike Goldman, Bree Amer and Ryan ‘Fitzy’ Fitzgerald. The three have managed to forge a trio built on chemistry and comedy for TEN’s live and panel shows.
Download is arguably TEN’s own equivalent of the highly successful Funniest Home Videos on Nine, an economically lean show with internet clips interjected by the comment from the three hosts.
As the season premiere nears, Goldman and Amer shed some light on the show’s structure to TV …
Seven CEO: “Nine is f***ed, TEN a ‘pocket money’ network”
Australia’s Got Talent, Dancing with the Stars, Desperate Housewives and Grey’s Anatomy will join Sunday Night as key programmes on Seven’s Sunday night line up in 2009. The shows will air at different times of the year to help prop up the key night that Seven needs to address.
“Sunday night has been our problem slot,” acknowledges Seven CEO David Leckie. “If we grab the territory there it’s all over. I reckon it is all over. I’ve been in the business a long time. I’ve never seen the ratings landscape better for …
Cast all at Sea once more
Set to guest star in the Sea Patrol: Red Gold are Jessica Napier (McLeod’s Daughters, Stingers), Blair McDonough (Big Brother, Neighbours) and Tasma Walton (Blue Heelers).
But the real ‘coup’ for the third series is actor Robert Coleby, who appeared in the ABC’s Patrol Boat (1979 - 1983). Coleby’s inclusion is a terrific touch from the casting department.
He played Lieutenant Charles Fisher alongside Andrew McFarlane in the series produced by James Davern (A Country Practice). Like Sea Patrol, that series was also produced with the co-operation of the Royal Australian Navy.
Principal …
ABC beats TEN as Seven wins
It was the week that American critics began to knife Kath & Kim (officially), ABC told staff it would cut up to 35 production jobs, Nine denied having a contract with the wife of a convicted crim, an actor lambasted his former soap, Today Tonight announced its next host would be a sports presenter and said its film crew helped -not hounded- an interviewee, Seven ’streamlined’ its Lotto results, buyers eyed a key production company, the Imparja / Nine Darwin deal fell apart, a TV critic died, and suddenly so did …
Buyers eye Southern Star
Southern Star chief executive Hugh Marks says his company is “working hard to come up with something new for TEN in the slot Big Brother used to fill.”
In 2009 TEN will need to find at least one new ‘tentpole’ programme for Sunday evenings and 7pm weeknights. It faces a mid year void in between The Biggest Loser and Australian Idol.
His comments come amid concerns that Southern Star’s revenue are expected to drop by around 20% following the axing of Big Brother. Despite speculation Nine might have been interested in the franchise, …
Returning: Download
After it was promised to follow Big Brother, TEN has now scheduled Download (formerly Friday Night Download).
The clip show starring Mike Goldman, Bree Amer and Ryan Fitzgerald will return 7:30pm Friday October 17.
The second season of the show again showcases internet clips with commentary by the three former Big Brother presenters.
These episodes were filmed some time ago. Singer Jade McCrae guest stars in the first episode.
Press Release:
It’s weird, it’s wired and it’s back for 2008!

20 to 1’s Greatest TV Moments
20 to 1 last night offered up its list of “Greatest TV Moments,” a roll call of the best ‘Made for TV’ moments from the last 50 years.
There were a lot of nostalgic, memorable moments on the list, which steered clear of news and sport. Those that made the list were constructs from drama, comedy, reality, lifestyle and current affairs. While the list was predominantly Australian, a few American, and one British moment also made the cut. Clearly television from other corners of the world was banished…
As with all the 20 …
