Eli Stone

Oh for a bit of fantasy on our screens. You can keep your realism and your factuals, television that surprises me is king right now. And that’s just what you get in the first episode of Eli Stone.

Long overdue to Australian screens, Seven is belatedly bringing this American drama to us over summer. Co-created by Greg Berlanti (Brothers and Sisters, Dirty Sexy Money, Everwood), this stars British actor Jonny Lee Miller as a lawyer in the title role. He seemingly has it all, a successful life, beautiful girlfriend and corporate career. …

David E. Kelley series for NBC

David E. Kelley has been given a series approval by NBC for a new legal drama. The show revolves around an aging partner and his daughter who works with him as well as a host of eccentric characters around them.

Kelley moved his production company to Warner Bros. TV earlier this year, which sees Boston Legal currently airing its final season in the US. The series was pitched to CBS and NBC this month, with both networks responding strongly. NBC landed the show with a pilot order and a multimillion-dollar penalty if …

Whatever happened to Nip / Tuck?

Don’t pretend you don’t remember. It’s that show that’s known for being outrageous with its storylines, with two polar opposite plastic surgeons in Miami with the most bizarre of patients.

But where did Nip / Tuck go?

Last time we visited the practice of McNamara / Troy they had just escaped the serial attacker The Carver. But the way Nine messed around with the episodes we were left hanging on a knife-edge, awaiting conclusive episodes. That was back around March or so, and they were episodes made in 2005.

Since then two series have …

Reminder: 30 Rock, Boston Legal new times

Now Liz Lemon and Jack Donaghy fans don’t forget the current season of 30 Rock is drawing to a close on Seven, with two - count them two - episodes slated outside its normal Monday slot:

Friday Sept 26 11:15pm “Sandwich Day”
Tuesday Sept 30 11:30pm “Cooter” season finale

Also having an adjusted time are the last two episodes of Boston Legal at 11pm Monday night Sept 29 and Oct 6. At 10:30pm Seven returns Out of the Question with Glenn Robbins.

The “Cooter” episode won an Emmy this week for writing in a comedy series. It …

Returning: Mad Men

The second season of the stylish, critical darling Mad Men will air on the Movie Extra channel in December.

It premieres 9:30pm Sunday December 14.

The series set in the smoky, executive rooms of Madison Avenue’s advertising agents in the 1960s was a big winner at the Emmys this week, defeating Dexter, Damages, Boston Legal, Lost and House. It also scored a writing award.

Previously the series has won Golden Globes including Best Drama and Best Actor in a dramatic series. Add to that WGA wins and SAG nominations, it isn’t hard to see …

Returning: Out of the Question

Good to see Glenn Robbins is getting a second shot at his light entertainment format, in a sensible timeslot.

Out of the Question was too relaxed to fire in its original 8:30pm timeslot earlier this year. Together with some less-than-slick presentation it seemed like the show had been rushed to air too soon. But Robbins is still a likable performer and in its new 10:30pm timeslot (the same time TV Tonight suggested back in February) it has half a shot at finding a loyal audience.

The show returns on Monday September 29 …
