Sci Fi Channel switching to 16:9

The Sci Fi Channel has its second birthday on December 1 and will celebrate by switching from 4:3 to 16:9 ratio across the channel.

Around half the shows on the channel will be broadcast in true 16:9 detail. Those programmes that are only available in 4:3 will be pillar-boxed with black stripes down the side.

“Star Trek: Next Generation, Voyager, Deep Space Nine are only available in 4:3,” a spokesperson told TV Tonight.

Airdate: ‘The Joss House’

Sci Fi fans can get a weekly fix of one of their favourite creators, Joss Whedon, when the Sci Fi Channel begins airing three of his shows back to back in November

From November 30, The Joss House will screen weekly episodes of Firefly, Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel.

It begins with “Serenity” S1E1 of Firefly, “After Life” S6E3 of Buffy and “Through the Looking Glass” S2E21 of Angel.

All they need now is Dollhouse.

Dollhouse for FOX8

FOX8 has picked up the rights to Dollhouse, the latest drama from Joss Whedon. Although TEN talked up Dollhouse in May, the program will be aired with fewer ads and could have posed problems for a commercial free-to-air network.
