British actor Edward Woodward, known for his TV series Callan and The Equalizer and film roles including The Wicker Man and Breaker Morant, has died. He was 79.

He died in a hospital in Cornwall after an illness, said his agent.

His most recent roles were in East Enders and The Bill.

Callan was screened by ITV from 1967 to 1972 as a small screen answer to James Bond. He won a BAFTA Award for best actor for his role and returned to an ongoing role in The Equalizer from 1986 to 1989 as …
