Gyngell: “Pay TV will flatten out”
Nine CEO David Gyngell spoke pragmatically to media buyers yesterday in Melbourne, at the end of his three-city tour.
Born and bred into a television world, he was again frank about the network’s upcoming slate. After the showreel featuring Underbelly, Hey Hey, Top Gear and many obscure titles such as Send in the Dogs he conceded that not everything will work.
“There will be a lot of good ones, and a few bad ones -I did put out Dance Your Ass Off this year which wasn’t one of the finest CV moments for …
Coming soon: Sea Patrol UK
There’s no Lisa McCune or Ian Stenlake for miles in this one…
Nine will soon be airing the somewhat confusingly titled Sea Patrol UK.
The National Geographic series follows an elite team of rescue agencies including the RNLI, the RAF, Customs and the Coastguard patrol 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Its slogan is “It’s tough out there.”
The series is one of several new titles on its slate that it recently tipped to advertisers would be coming soon.
Also included were: Let’s Dance for Comic Relief, Celebrity Singing Bee, Secret Millionaire, Survivors, Wipeout, …
Nine renovates post Easter schedule
Channel Nine will premiere its new renovation series homeMADE after the Easter non-ratings break.
Previously titled Home Run, the series is developed by The Chopping Block’s Julian Cress and David Barbour. Both also created The Block. Interior designers will battle it out as they make over everyday Australian family homes. The homes will be the stage where “the designers will wage war on each other until only one remains and takes out the ultimate prize.”
The series, hosted by Sydney interior designer David Heimann, is expected to be stripped across the 7pm timeslot. …
Returning: Getaway. Gone: Celebrity Singing Bee
Nine has decided it’s time for a holiday.
But a holiday on a budget. Getaway is returning next Thursday at 7:30pm with the first of two episodes that focus on economically-priced holidays. No doubt as a result of the global financial crisis.
This means Celebrity Singing Bee is now out.
Last week Tim Campbell told TV Tonight six specials would air in the 7:30pm Thursday slot.
“But you know, talk to me next week and who knows?” he laughed.
Little did anybody realise the show would have to make way for the Australia Unites special, with …
Hosting no fuss for Tim Campbell
Tim Campbell returns to Celebrity Singing Bee tonight, in a format that he feels very comfortable with.
Away from the pressure of Million Dollar Wheel of Fortune, he is pragmatic about the rigors of commercial television, even to the point of wishing all shows and all networks could find a thriving audience.
“I know there was all that carry-on but I actually loved that gig,” he told TV Tonight.
Always looking for ways to improve his performance he said, “After the first week I watched the tapes back and thought ‘ok I’ve got to …
Bee sings up extra tunes
Nine’s Celebrity Singing Bee will be running a little longer than the one special it has slated for tonight.
Next week there’s a 90’s Night with celebrity singers Richard Reid, Jonathan Coleman, Erin McNaught, Nick Giannopoulos and Dieter Brummer.
A week later it’s Number #1 hits with Craig Lowndes, Gyton Grantly, Frankie J Holden, Annalise Braakenseik and Charlie Delany.
There are six specials all up, meaning Getaway will be having a holiday for just a little bit longer. Not such a bad idea when overseas trips are a little pricey for the budget-conscious.
Returning: Celebrity Singing Bee
Nine’s first return episode of Celebrity Singing Bee is back in a week’s time.
Hosted again by Tim Campbell, the light entertainent show will be back at 7:30pm next Thursday February 5th, themed “80’s Mania.”
Getaway is scheduled for the following week, February 12th.
Host Tim Campbell is in his element, taking celebrity guests through the lyrics of well known hits with the chance of winning up to $50,000 for charity. The key element is fun, and with an audience ready to clap, cheer and dance in the aisles, each week will be a …
Nine’s Secret Millionaire
In Nine’s 2008 ratings report it indicated some of the shows that are due next year. While most are already known to us there were two new titles:
Secret Millionaire and Little Britain.
Secret Millionaire is a British format in which millionaires give away tens of thousand of their own money after spending time living in a community where no one knows that they are wealthy. A US version also begins this week on FOX.
At this stage it’s unclear if Nine airs an international or local version -presumably, it wouldn’t involve a Packer….
