If this house built for Showcase’s production of Cloudstreet is any indication, the miniseries being produced by Screentime looks like it will be one to watch.

Filming for the six part series has been underway in Perth, with this house created by set designer Herbert Pinter built at the old Sunset Hospital site in Dalkeith.

Cast announced for Cloudstreet

Showtime Australia and Screentime have announced its cast for the Cloudstreet miniseries, to be adapted from Tim Winton’s novel about two Perth working class families from the 1940s – 1960s.

It includes Essie Davis (The Silence, The Girl With The Pearl Earring, After The Deluge, The Matrix) as Dolly Pickles with Stephen Curry (30 Seconds, The King) as her husband Sam Pickles, and Emma Booth (Underbelly 3, Clubland) as their daughter Rose.

SBS Drama exec returns to ABC

An SBS Drama executive is heading back to the ABC.

Carole Sklan, who commissioned two seasons of East West 101, plus Carla Cametti PD and the upcoming second season of Wilfred for SBS, has re-joined ABC TV as a Commissioning Editor for Drama.

Sklan worked at SBS for three and a half years where she was commissioning editor on the telemovie Saved, the animated feature Mary and Max, the five minute comedy interstitial series Marx and Venus, and the indigenous short series, Bit of Black Business.

Vale: Charles “Bud” Tingwell

Veteran actor Bud Tingwell has died in a Melbourne hospital this morning after a battle with prostate cancer. He was 86.

Tingwell was considered to be the ‘grandfather’ of the Australian film and television industry. He has a wealth of film, television, theatre and radio achievements.

Tingwell became the youngest radio announcer in Australia when he was employed at Sydney radio station 2CH as a cadet, then joined the Royal Australian Air Force in 1941 and was sent to the Middle East as a photographic reconnaissance pilot.

Top cast for My Place, ABC children’s drama

The ABC has assembled an impressive cast for My Place, its new 13-part, half hour children’s drama series, which started shooting yesterday in Sydney.

Joining a line up of child actors  is a cast that includes: Susie Porter (East of Everything and Little Fish), Dan Wyllie (Love My Way, Underbelly), Sacha Horler (Love My Way, Grass Roots), Dan Spielman (Mary Bryant, Tom White), Russell Dykstra (Clubland, Romulus, My Father), Leon Ford (All Saints, Changi) and Hayley McElhinney (Blue Heelers, Young Lions.)

A chance to remember Mark’s work

Just a heads up for fans of Mark Priestley.

ABC is currently repeating the miniseries Changi from 2001.

You can catch an episode with Mark titled “Curley”. The synopsis says “While driving, Old Curley is temporarily blinded by the sun, takes a wrong turn and is suddenly back in ‘the hole’ at Changi – a small, dank, underground chamber with very little light.” CAST: Mark Priestley, Slim de Grey, Leon Ford.
