Stranger things have happened. After all a former actor once became President of the US of A.

The kicker here is that the former Vice President contender is working with none other than hotshot producer Mark Burnett on a project which would see her family appear in a ‘docudrama’ series described as “Planet Earth type look at Palin’s home state of Alaska. Burnett is what gives this project weight.

Entertainment invariably reflects its social and political times. Movies and television shows are products of their generation. When Clinton was in office there was a flood of movies depicting the US President as an action hero –something writers could never have done while crusty old Ronnie Reagan or George Bush Snr were in power. The West Wing also emerged under the Clinton reign.

Some are fictional, some are actors in biographic roles, but all have been American Presidents on television.

Dennis Haysbert (pictured) portraying President David Palmer in 24 was so impressive in the role that some online polls (including in the UK) put him as “television’s favourite president.” Not a bad feat considering Martin Sheen played the role for 148 episodes on The West Wing.
