CSI: the movie

William Petersen has confirmed a big screen version of CSI is in development.

“Yes, there will be a movie,” said the actor who remains a show producer.

“I can understand people are a little trepidatious because of the franchise around the world and how well it’s doing. Usually people leave it until a series has finished – they did that with the X-Files and Sex and the City. But it’s about finding the right story – there has got to be a real reason to do it.

60 + 30 = 90 Minutes

This Sunday night as part of its 30th Anniversary, 60 Minutes has announced a 90 minute edition (!) to conclude at 9pm.

No doubt it was overflowing with many important stories and moments to squeeze into its special.

This means that CSI, CSI: Miami and Without a Trace are all pushed back by 30 minutes. In the case of Without a Trace, it’s certainly a late start and finish for a season premiere. It won’t end until midnight -on a school night, no less.

Cast line up for NCIS spinoff

There is more news on the NCIS spinoff with movement in the casting department.

Chris O’Donnell and LL Cool J. are in negotiations as the two male leads.

Meanwhile actors Louise Lombard (CSI) Peter Cambor (Notes From the Underbelly) and Daniela Ruah have been cast in an episode of NCIS later this year as a springboard for the new series.

Lombard will play Clara, a former major in the military police. Believed to be the female lead on the ensemble drama, Clara is described as an intelligent, sharp investigator who can look after herself. …

Returning: 60 Minutes, CSI, Without a Trace

Nine’s Sunday line up resumes on the network on February 22nd.

As revealed on TV Tonight, 60 Minutes returns with a 30th Anniversary special at 7:30pm, that highlights some of the most memorable interviews and events from its archives.

At 8:30pm CSI: Crime Scene Investigation is back with S9E06 “Say Uncle Feb” at 8:30pm.

At 9:30pm it’s CSI: Miami, with SE6E15 “Ambush” in NSW QLD and S6E20 “Down to the Wire” in Victoria. It continues 9:30pm Thursdays.

Finally, Without a Trace returns now at 10:30pm with S7E01 “Closure.”

Vale: James Whitmore

James Whitmore, the veteran Emmy-winning actor died of lung cancer at his home in Malibu on Friday. He was 87.

Although best known as a movie actor, Whitmore starred in three TV series: the 1960-62 legal drama The Law and Mr. Jones, the 1969 detective drama My Friend Tony and the 1972-74 hospital sitcom Temperature’s Rising. But he was a guest actor in classic shows including Gunsmoke, Dr. Kildare, Disneyland, Bonanza, and Ben Casey.

In 2000 he won an Emmy Award as outstanding guest actor in a drama series for The Practice, and …

CBS, ABC pilots

More pilots have been greenlit in the US with big names attached including Jerry Bruckheimer, McG and Mitch Hurwitz.

ABC approved an untitled pilot from Jerry Bruckheimer revolving around a team of dedicated amateur detectives working on cases of unidentified victims. If the pilot goes to series, it would be Bruckheimer’s first scripted show on ABC. The network famously passed on CSI before it was sold to CBS.

Producer/ Director McG also won pilot approval for Limelight, a soap set around the teachers and students of a performing arts college in New York …

Nine declares ratings schedule

Channel Nine has announced more details of its line-up across the next two weeks.

Underbelly secures a two hour premiere at 8:30pm Monday February 9th. A week later Aussie Ladette to Lady joins in the 9:30pm slot.

The Farmer Wants a Wife (pictured) will premiere 7:30pm February 11th, with Domestic Blitz moving to its regular Sunday 6:30pm slot following the end of Nine’s cricket commitments.

Also announced are Adults Only 20 to 1 for 8:30pm Thursday February 5th (the mind boggles, Bert!) and the return of 60 Minutes and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation on …

Faye Dunaway for Grey’s Anatomy

“Tina, bring me the axe.”

Faye Dunaway is said to be due to guest star in Grey’s Anatomy.

According to Michael Ausiello at EW.com “the Oscar winner who hasn’t taken a small-screen gig since a 2006 episode of CSI has signed on for at least one episode of Grey’s Anatomy to air in February. She’ll play a renowned doc at the hospital who crosses paths with the Chief, Cristina and Owen.”

Assuming this happens, it will surely be worth catching. Dunaway is such a commanding performer, and sometimes a complete scene-stealer too. Aside …

Nine’s Secret Millionaire

In Nine’s 2008 ratings report it indicated some of the shows that are due next year. While most are already known to us there were two new titles:

Secret Millionaire and Little Britain.

Secret Millionaire is a British format in which millionaires give away tens of thousand of their own money after spending time living in a community where no one knows that they are wealthy. A US version also begins this week on FOX.

At this stage it’s unclear if Nine airs an international or local version -presumably, it wouldn’t involve a Packer….
