If this house built for Showcase’s production of Cloudstreet is any indication, the miniseries being produced by Screentime looks like it will be one to watch.

Filming for the six part series has been underway in Perth, with this house created by set designer Herbert Pinter built at the old Sunset Hospital site in Dalkeith.

Cast announced for Cloudstreet

Showtime Australia and Screentime have announced its cast for the Cloudstreet miniseries, to be adapted from Tim Winton’s novel about two Perth working class families from the 1940s – 1960s.

It includes Essie Davis (The Silence, The Girl With The Pearl Earring, After The Deluge, The Matrix) as Dolly Pickles with Stephen Curry (30 Seconds, The King) as her husband Sam Pickles, and Emma Booth (Underbelly 3, Clubland) as their daughter Rose.

I, Spry to infiltrate ASIO history

A little more info has emerged on ABC’s new dramatised doco I, Spry, from the makers of Who Killed Dr Bogle and Mrs Chandler?

Tony Llewellyn-Jones (Curtin, GP), will star as Charles Spry, who attempted to reshape ASIO after fumbled counter-espionage operations against Russian intelligence and a local spy ring. Publicity notes indicate, “The controversial, election-influencing Petrov defections of 1954 gives him unprecedented power. But Spry soon finds himself in a “wilderness of mirrors”, where nobody is who or what they seem.”

Bob Hawke consults on TEN telemovie

Former Prime Minister Bob Hawke has been involved as a consultant on the new Channel TEN telemovie Hawke, currently filming in Melbourne.

Richard Roxburgh plays the title role, which promises to be a “warts and all” look at the colorful politician’s rise from trade union leader to PM.

The telemovie will touch upon Hawke’s alcoholism and womanising.

“It’s there, there’s no point in it not being there,” Roxburgh told the Herald Sun. “But it’s not there to the detriment of other elements of his nature.

Q&A: May 28

Vibrant actor William McInnes will join the Q&A panel this week, the last in the current series.

Although best known for his roles on Blue Heelers, Sea Change, Curtin, Look Both Ways and Unfinished Sky, he is also the author of three books. Earlier this year, McInnes also accepted the role of Chair of the Museum of Australian Democracy at Old Parliament House.

He will join Kate Ellis, Minister for Youth and Sport, former Opposition Leader Brendan Nelson, businessman Peter Holmes a Court and writer and Miriam Lyons, policy analyst (updated).

Top cast for My Place, ABC children’s drama

The ABC has assembled an impressive cast for My Place, its new 13-part, half hour children’s drama series, which started shooting yesterday in Sydney.

Joining a line up of child actors  is a cast that includes: Susie Porter (East of Everything and Little Fish), Dan Wyllie (Love My Way, Underbelly), Sacha Horler (Love My Way, Grass Roots), Dan Spielman (Mary Bryant, Tom White), Russell Dykstra (Clubland, Romulus, My Father), Leon Ford (All Saints, Changi) and Hayley McElhinney (Blue Heelers, Young Lions.)
